Cove Franklin - District Six

"We could go to the big field," I suggest.

My ally Ocean and I are figuring out where we are going to stay. It's been four days in the arena so far, and it hasn't been all that terrible. It really helps that Ocean and I are allies. I know I wouldn't be alive if Ocean and I weren't together. I'm glad we're in an alliance.

We settle down in the big field like I suggested. We get our things set up. Ocean heads into the forest to hunt, she can use a bow and arrow. I stay and watch for people. After a few minutes, I hear a scream from the forest and a high pitched, "Cove! Help!!"

Oh God. No. No. It must be Ocean.

I spring up, knife in hand, not even knowing what's happening. I sprint into the forest. I will let nothing happen to Ocean. I get to the forest quick enough to see Serena, North, and Sydney running away and Ocean lying on the forest floor, crying and yelping in pain. I run up to her.

"Ocean, Ocean, what's wrong?" I ask, leaning down by her side. She cries out and points to her leg. I roll up her pant leg and there it is. A big, deep, bloody cut right across her thigh. Stupid North probably did it. She's the meanest and scariest out of those three, plus her weapon is a knife.

"Oh Ocean, it'll be okay. Can you walk?" I ask even though she can't. She shakes her head. "Uhm, well, uh, maybe..." I trail off because I don't know what to suggest.

"Here let me go get the stuff and then we can set up and stay here. I'll be back in a minute, don't worry," I say to Ocean. I run and go get our stuff, then quickly head back. I don't want anything else to happen to Ocean.

"Okay, is it any better? Can you at least sit up against this tree?" I ask Ocean when I get back. "I think so," she answers quietly. I help Ocean prop herself up against the trunk of the tree.

"Did you get any medicine or cream in your pack?" I ask Ocean. "I think there might be cream," she says, hanging her head. "It really hurts," she tells me, tears falling down her cheeks. "I know, don't worry, let me get the cream. Everything will be okay." I give Ocean a quick hug and go get the cream from her pack. It's a small black container. I bring it over and open the container. I take some and spread it across the big cut.

"Does it feel any better?" I ask her after I apply a few coats of it. "Yeah I think so." Ocean sniffles. "Kay, we'll put some on later tonight," I tell her. She nods. I put the cream away and then get our the meat that Ocean got before. I start a small fire as Ocean rests, and then cook it and wake her up. We eat the meat and some apples in silence. For the next few hours, Ocean sleeps while I take watch and pray that she will be okay. In the morning when  Ocean and I are both awake, we hear an announcement being made. We both listen closer.

"Good morning tributes. We have been watching each person and alliance very closely and we have seen that each of you need something. Tomorrow, there will be nine backpacks near the Cornucopia. There will be a list on each backpack of what alliance or tribute gets that backpack. Take only what is yours, or if you dare to take someone else's. We will place the bags when it begins to get dark. We hope you will join us at the Cornucopia tomorrow. Good luck and goodnight," Claudius Templesmith announces.

"Ocean this is great! In the bag will probably be some better medicine to put on you cut!" I exclaim to her. "Yeah!" She says and nods happily. In a bit, we decide to head off to bed.

When it begins to get dark the next day, I shake Ocean awake who had been sleeping. "Ocean, I'm going to head to the Cornucopia," I tell her. She nods and says, "Be careful. Take a knife with you." I smile. "Yep I have a couple. Do you think I should go? I don't want anything to happen to you when I'm gone," I say. "I'll be fine. You're the one putting yourself at risk. And you're strong. You got this," she tells me. I turn and begin walking away, but then I turn back around and add, "I love you Ocean."

And I begin my journey to the Cornucopia. I soon arrive and see it, but I stay hiding in the forest where I have a good view of it. There is a table set up by the horn with nine small backpacks in assorted colours. I squint my eyes and look closer. I can't read the names on each bag. I guess I'll have to see when I go up closer.

Suddenly, North and Serena run towards the Cornucopia. They grab one backpack and then quickly dart away. I slam my fist down. I wanted to be the first one. At least they only took their backpack. I wait a few minutes, and then decide to go for it. I'm doing it for Ocean.

I look both ways, then sprint in the direction of the big horn. I'm so close, so so close to grabbing the bag, when Sky rushes out of the Cornucopia. I freeze for a second. So does Sky. Then I step forward and grab the bag and begin to run away. But then Sky runs too and throws a knife in my direction. I miss it and she gets ready to throw another, but she trips and falls and that's when I get out of there. I run as fast as I can back to Ocean. I'm close to arriving, and then I hear another horrible high-pitched scream like the one from the forest. And it's Ocean's scream.

I think all the worst and pick up my pace by a thousand. I get to our spot first and I see Ocean standing there with an arrow right through her chest. Oh my gosh. No. No. This can't be happening. I see North, Sydney, and Serena running away again. They must've got their backpack and then come to see if I was gone. And I was. And they hurt Ocean.

"Ocean. What happened are you okay?" I ask quietly, my arms and legs shaking. She sinks to the floor and lays down. No. This can't be happening. "Ocean," I say in a whisper. "It will be okay."

Tears stream out of Ocean's and my eyes. This is happening. Ocean is dying. She looks up at me. "You have to win. You can do it without me." I shake my head, because I can't. I can't. I can't go on without her. She means very thing to me. Her and my younger brother Theo, but right now Ocean is the only thing that matters. I love her. I do. Ocean's eyes close and she goes still. No, no, no. She really is dead. I lean over and kiss her. Then it really sinks in when her cannon goes off. Ocean, my ally, my sweet, kind, funny, fierce ally, is dead. From an arrow, in her chest. I cry and cry and can't stop. When I do stop, I don't know what time it is or what's going on.

I can't believe it. I don't think I'll ever get over it.

Rowan Jenners - District Five

"What did you get?" I ask Reese when she arrives back from the feast.

I formed an alliance with Cami from District One and Reese from District Seven. Cami is twelve like I am, and Reese is fourteen.

"Food and water. Which is good because we do really need both," Reese answers. "Thank you! We were worried you died because we heard some cannons," Cami says. "Yeah, I saw Nikita and Meadow die before I went to the horn," Reese replies. Cami and I nod.

"So we got food and water, now are we good with our spot?" Asks Cami. "Yeah I think so," Reese and I agree. "We should think about who's left and who will be our biggest competitors," I suggest. "Well the people who have died are Ruby, Alanna, Ivia, Addelyn, Meadow, Nikita, and there was one more cannon but we don't know who," Cami says. "So that leaves seventeen people left," Reese states. "One of our biggest competitors are North and her group," I say. They nod. "And Sky, Tenlie, Blossom, and Jasmine," Reese adds. "Yeah," Cami and I agree.

Later that night, Cami goes into the forest to get us some berries to go along with our dinner. We're having soup from the bag we got earlier, plus crackers and obviously the berries. We sit on logs to eat. I set my berries aside and slurp my soup first.

"Tomorrow we should take on some people as allies so our group is bigger," suggests Reese. "Yeah we should," I say, and Cami nods in agreement.
