Hudson Bricker - District Six

"I'll get the water, you guys get the food," I say to Mitchell and Theo. They nod.

I really like my alliance of Mitchell and Theo. We were also supposed to have Basil in our alliance but he died in the bloodbath. Mitchell and Theo can both get food for us though which is really good. Mitchell can use a bow and arrow so he can hunt and Theo can get edible greens, berries, plants, and nuts.

I fill our three water bottles and add the purifiers to it. I set them down. I wait for Theo and Mitchell to arrive back. Theo comes with a handful of berries and vegetables and Mitchell returns with a rabbit. "They're weren't that much animals," he explains. We cook the rabbit and eat it with the stuff Theo got.

Where were are right now is in the forest by a big lake. It's. a pretty good space for this musty arena. After we eat we sit there. "We could practice our skills," suggests Mitchell. "Sure why not," Theo and I agree. We all grab our things head deeper in the forest to practice.

Theo and I first help Mitchell with his archery. We pick targets and he has to shoot at them as quick as he can. Theo and Mitchell do the same thing for me except my weapon is a spear instead of a bow and arrow. And then for Theo we'll pick a berry or a nut or a root and he has to say if it's edible or not.

I'm showing Theo a dark brown nut when we hear a squawking noise coming from above us. We all look up. I grab my spear and Mitchell grabs his bow and arrow. All of a sudden, a whole bunch of black birds with green and red on their wings fly out of the trees. They immediately swarm down and go for the three of us.

"Run!" I scream to my allies. We bolt through the forest as they try to attack us. I swipe my spear up and down trying to get rid of them. They bite like crazy. I get a few on my neck that sting so bad. I swat and slap at the birds. Eventually they actually go away. I immediately run back to help Mitchell and Theo. But when I reach them, I feel sick to my stomach.

Mitchell and Theo are lying on the forest floor with birds all over them. Two cannons go off. They're dead. I sink to the floor and start crying.

It should've been me who died. I know it should've. Theo's sister Cove made it to the big Games, if he made at least one of them could've made it back to parents. And all Theo had was his grandma and his younger siblings. He had to take care of all of them on his own. They both should've survived. All I have is a father who works constantly to make ends meet and a mother who is sick. I do love them and care about them a lot, but if I wasn't there I don't know how much of a difference it would make.
