Alora Debrowski - District Eleven
North and I are doing well. We left North's allies, Sydney and Serena, because we felt they were dragging us down and they weren't so tough. We were doing great with just North and me. We're both really strong, we both can use a knife well, we just work well together. I'm glad we ditched Sydney and Serena.
After we left them, we settled down on some rocks. We found out that Jacklyn, Maude, and Princess were also in the forest. One night we walked up to where they were and killed Maude and Princess, leaving Jacklyn alone. We've just been by the rocks since then.
The people who are left in the Games are Cami, Sky, Jacklyn, Rowan, Cove, Reese, Holly, North, and I. Nine people. Three more have to die. It won't be North or I, I'm guessing the weaker ones so Cami, Rowan, and Cove. I hope I get to kill some people.
"We can make it out alive, North," I tell North as we walk along the forest floor on a hunt. "Mhm," she answers, half-listening and looking around. "North, did you even hear what I said!?" I ask. "Huh...oh yeah, I'm listening," she says. "Then what did I say?" I question. "You asked me if I heard what you said!" She exclaims. "Before that!!" I say angrily. "I don't know Alora," replies North as she throws her knife and hits a rabbit. "So you're not listening," I say. "Alora just forget about it!" North says, whipping her head around to look at me. I turn away annoyed and angry. We continue hunting but don't talk to each other.
"Let's head back." Suggests North when we have a lot of food. We walk back to the rocks. North starts a fire and we cook a goose for dinner. We eat in silence.
I feel like something has changed between North and I. She seems, I don't know, annoyed with me. Which is crazy because I've done so many things for her. I came up with the plan to abandon her allies and I've done so much more. I just wish she could realize that.
Cove Franklin - District Six
Ever since Ocean died, I've been different. I loved her so much, she was one of the only two people I cared about. And then she died. And inside, something changed. A part of me was torn away, a part of me died. The love I felt for Ocean was still there, but she was gone. And she will never come back. When she died, I cried for days. I missed her so much and I still do. I collected my things and tried to find a good spot. But everywhere I looked, I saw Ocean. The forest, where she died, also where she hunted. The big field, where we are before she died.
Eventually, I find a meadow and set up there.
I sit down and sigh. Now what? I don't even know what to do anymore. I look into my pack. Two throwing knives, a flashlight, some socks, food. I haven't eaten in days. I take out some dried fruit and begin eating. As I'm finishing the bag, I see Holly Chang, Sky Rangoli, and Jacklyn Eversea walking towards me. I quickly stuff the dried fruit away. They soon approach me.
"Cove." Holly says.
I look up, my hands shaking. I pull my knife out. Holly hovers her hand over it. I'm confused.
"We won't hurt you. We want to help you," she says. "Holly helped Jacklyn and I. Now we want to help you," Adds Sky. Soon, all four of us are in a field where Jacklyn, Holly, and Sky had their things set up. They ask me about Ocean. I take a deep breath, preparing to tell the story.
"It all started at Opening Ceremonies. We became allies. I told her my weapon, she told me hers. At that moment we agreed to be in an alliance," I begin, tears already forming in my eyes. "When the Games started, we found each other right away. We were doing so well. Until the day it happened. Well actually, two days." I continue. I have all three girls' attention now. "I suggested we go into a field. She agreed. When we got there, she said she was going into the forest to hunt. And then I heard the scream." I'm crying now, but I keep going. "I ran into the forest, and Ocean was on the floor with a big cut across her thigh. The next day, I left for the Cornucopia, hoping to get Ocean some medicine," I say.
Sky looks up at me. "Cove, I'm so sorry for throwing a knife at you," she says quickly. "Sky, it's okay. Really it's good," I tell her honestly. She smiles. "And I was heading back to Ocean when I heard her scream again. I sprinted back, and Ocean had an arrow in her chest. I broke down. I couldn't handle it. I stayed with her until her cannon went off. I cried for days, I didn't know what else to do. I loved her and I still do. And now she's gone." Holly, Sky, and Jacklyn are all crying like I am. "But thank you guys for helping me. I need it, I really do," I tell them, wiping my eyes. "It's okay Cove. We're here for you. We won't leave you," Holly tells me. I smile and sniffle. "What are your stories?" I ask them.
Sky tells me how she was allies with Tenlie, Jasmine, and Blossom and then they died due to tracker jackers. Jacklyn tells me how she was allies with Maude and Princess, and they both were stabbed by Alora and North. Holly tells me how she was by herself until her and Sky became allies.
"So I think our biggest competitors right now are North and Alora," I say. "Yeah definitely," agrees Jacklyn. "Who do we have left? Cami, Rowan Reese. And Alora and North. Us. Nine people. Three more have to die," Sky says. "Let's not make it us," Holly says.
