Jordan Kervers - District Twelve

Holly and I both wake up early on day five. "Hey," I say to her. "Hi," she says back, smiling. "I was thinking I could teach you how to use weapons today. Whichever one you want," I say. "Sure, thanks," she says, still smiling. Her smile makes me smile. It's so pretty, it lights up the whole world.

"Want me to teach you now?" I ask. "Sure," Holly says. We both get out of our sleeping bags and put on sweaters. I grab the weapons and we head outside onto the beach.

It's a nice day. Warm but with a breeze. The sky is streaked pink and orange, and the waves are splashing against shore.

"What weapon do you want to learn?" I ask Holly. "Knives," she responds. I get out two knives-one for Holly and one for me-and hand one to Holly. I come and stand beside her.

"Hold it like this," I instruct. She follows. "Okay good. Now hold your hand back slightly, and use all your power to throw it. Here, use this tree as a target," I tell her, pointing to a tree near us. "I'll throw one as an example," I say. I throw a knife and it nails the center of the tree.

Holly tries next and gets a little above center. With a few more tries, she can nail the center. "Wow, you're great at this!" I say and she smiles. "Want to learn how to use a bow and arrow or are you good with just a knife?" I ask. "I'll stick with knives," she replies. "Okay," I say. "But right now, do you think we could have...a sand fight?" Holly yells. She bends down, picks up and handful of sand, and chucks it at me. Then she giggles and runs away.

I laugh and then grab some sand. I chase her down the beach and then throw it at her. "Jordan!" She yells, fake-mad. We keep throwing sand at each other and laughing.

"C'mon, let's go into the water to get it off," I say. We both walk into the ocean and brush the sand away. Holly heads deeper into the water.

"Ow!" I hear her say. "What happened?" I ask right away. "A turtle bit me," she says. "Does it hurt? Like really bad?" I ask. "Yeah. I don't know why," Holly replies. "Let's head back, we have a first aid kit," I tell her. "Okay," Holly says, and she starts crying. "Aww, don't cry. Here, hop on my back," I say. She does and I carry her through the water and back to the beach. When we reach the house, Sky's awake and is cooking fish over a fire.

"Morning. Where were you guys? I was worried. Oh, is Holly okay?" Sky asks. "We were down at the beach. I was teaching Holly how to use a knife. She just got bit by a turtle," I explain, setting Holly down. I get the first aid kit and bandage the bite. "Thanks," Holly tells me, and I smile.

I sit down next to Holly. Calvin and William are still sleeping, so I quickly rouse them awake. Sky hands out the fish to everyone.

"How many people are left?" Asks William. "Well there's us, Marcus, Brooklyn, Trevor, Griffin, Jacklyn, North, Tate, and Cove, so thirteen people," answers Holly. "So eleven dead," Calvin says.

After we eat, people want to go swimming, so we head down to the beach. By now the sun has come out and it's hotter than ever. Holly and I suggest to take watch. We sit on the beach. Holly sighs. "This place is so beautiful," she says. "Not as beautiful as you," I say. She turns to me, smiles, and kisses me.

Suddenly, the sky turns grey and rain pours down on us. "What the hell!" Screams Calvin from the ocean. It starts thundering as well. "Run!" Yells Sky. They run out of the water. Holly and I grab our things and we all run inside our house. "We'll be safe here," William says.

Well he was wrong. A few minutes later, the roof of the house almost falls down from all the rain and thunder and lightning. "Oh crap," I say. We all grab our things and make a run for it. We run through the forest and over to the winter side. Over on the winter side it's more like hailing. We run through the winter forest and come to a clearing with cabins. We run into the closest one.
