Marcus Tropdon - District Five
I've been on my own this whole time. But I'm fine. Great, even. I got a lot of supplies from the Cornucopia, and good supplies too. A big backpack filled with warm clothes, food, water, and weapons. The weapons were a bow and arrow, a few throwing knives, and fishing gear. I picked one of the big and stable houses to stay in.
Right now, it's morning. It got really cold last night, and I'm still pretty cold. I get a match and start a fire. I soon warm up. I cook some turkey for breakfast. I also have an apple and some berries with the turkey. After I'm done, I'm full.
Since I got a bow and arrow from the Cornucopia and I can use one, I've been able to catch some animals, although there's not much of them in the arena. I haven't used the fishing supplies yet, I should do that soon.
I'm still a little cold so I put on a hat and a warmer jacket. I'm about to have some more berries when I hear a noise coming from outside. I stand up and grab my bow and sheath of arrows. I slowly walk outside, and right there is Cliff from District Seven. I pull out my bow and whip out an arrow. He backs away.
"Please, please don't kill me," he says, trembling. I lower it a little. "Why shouldn't I?" I question. "I'm desperate for allies. Please just help me," Cliff says quietly. I sigh and put my bow down.
I don't know if I should be with Cliff or not. I do like begin alone. Also, what if he is lying and will turn on me later? I know I should probably say no for me, but maybe having an ally might help. I don't really know.
"Sure, fine. Let's be allies," I say to Cliff. He steps forward eagerly. "Did you get anything from the Cornucopia?" I ask him. "No," he replies. "Oh," I say. Maybe being with Cliff wasn't such a good idea. I have a feeling I'm going to be the one doing all the work while Cliff sits back and relaxes. Maybe no one told Cliff, but when you're in the Games you can't relax.
"I was in that house." I point to the house right in front of house. "Okay," Cliff says. We both head inside. "Do you want me to start a fire?" I ask Cliff. "Sure." He nods. "Do you know how to start a fire?" I question. "Uh yeah I think so," responds Cliff. "Well can you help me?" I ask. "You can probably do it own though," Cliff says.
I can't believe him. I knew I would regret being with Cliff. If he's not going to help me things need to change. I'm not putting up with his crap for much longer. It's really annoying, and I won't do everything while he sits there.
I quickly start the fire. Cliff wraps a blanket around him. "Do you have any weapons?" I ask him. "I can fish, although I'm not the best at it," he says. I roll my eyes. "Well can you get us some fish to eat?" I annoyed. "I don't know. Do you have fishing gear?" Wonders Cliff. "Yeah, I do. So could you get some fish?" I ask. "I could try to. Should I go now?" Questions Cliff. "Sure why not," I tell him.
I reach into my pack, grab the fishing gear, and hold it out for Cliff. He stares blankly at it, but then grabs it and heads off. I sigh and sit down. I knew I shouldn't have been with Cliff. I eat some nuts while he's gone so I don't have to share with him. He takes a very long time, until I hear footsteps and he appears at the door.
"So, what'd you get?" I ask eagerly. "I know it took a while, but I got this!" He says. He holds up one fish. One small-ish fish.
My mouth drops open. And then I laugh. "You're joking right?" I ask. His smile disappears. "Um, no," he answers nervously. I stare him dead in the eyes. "That's all you got?" I ask. "Um yes?" Cliff says. "I thought you said you could fish!?" I exclaim. "Um, well, I thought I could too, and I can!! But..." Cliff finishes lamely.
"What the hell Cliff! You show up at my space and ask for help. I reluctantly agreed, even though I wasn't so sure about it. And you can't even do basic things! Can you do anything?!" I yell.
I storm over to him, yank the fishing supplies out of his hands, and stomp over to the river. I plunk down. I'm starving. I catch a few fat fish and head back to the house, feeling better. I enter the house and sit by the fire. I cook two fish as Cliff watches. He sits down as well. When the fish are done, I grab one and begin eating. Cliff reaches for the other one. I slap his hand away. He shrinks back.
"I caught them, they're for me," I say. "Fine then. I'll cook the fish I caught," Cliff says back. Cliff cooks his fish as I eat the second.
"I'm going to catch more tomorrow," Cliff announces. I laugh. "Good luck with that. They're my fishing and I'm the one who can actually fish." Cliff falls silent after that. I don't feel bad for him one bit. Sorry not sorry.
For the rest of the day, we basically just sit there not talking to each other. We head to bed early.
The next morning, when I wake up, Cliff is gone. My first thought is he left me and I get happy. My second thought is he died. My third though is interrupted when Cliff appears in the doorway. So he didn't leave me.
"Where have you been?" I ask. He holds up some fish. "I went fishing." I rush up. "I told you no. They're my supplies," I say, grabbing the supplies out of his hands.
"Marcus, you weren't even using them! Chill out man. What is wrong with you?!" Cliff turns around to face me. "What did you just say?" I question. "I said, what is wrong with you," Cliff replies. "Say that one more time." I breathe. "I said, what is wrong with you because you're angry at me for no reason and clearly have issues!" Shouts Cliff. I raise my bow and grab an arrow. I'm about to let it go when Cliff steps forward and punches me in the face. I recoil and then release the arrow.
It goes straight through Cliff's chest. He freezes for a second and then falls to the ground. A cannon goes BOOM, signalling Cliff is dead.
Oh well. He deserved it.
