Sky Rangoli - District Two

"Sky! Sky!" Our escort, Opal Mandel, trills as she bursts into my room. I roll over in bed and groan.
And then it hits me.

Today is the Hunger Games. The very first day. I sit up immediately and head to the bathroom. I take a long shower and then do two braids in my hair. I dress in a simple outfit: black leggings and a grey sweater and then look at myself in the mirror. I've been training for this day for three days now. I may not like it, but I have to and I'm going to fight hard. This girl's making it back.

I head down to the dining room to eat. Opal and Princess are already there. I barely feel like eating anything, but I know I should because I probably won't be able to get food easily in the arena. So I load  my plate with bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, and a muffin. Opal gets up to do something, and that's when our mentor, Aria, walks into the room. She grabs a plate of food and sits down but she doesn't begin eating.

"Okay. Today is the beginning of the Games. Are you girls planning to stick together?" She asks us. I didn't think that Princess and I were being allies, but I don't know what Princess is thinking.

"I didn't think we were going to," Princess says. I shake my head. "Me either," I say. Aria nods. "It might be good to form an alliance with one or more people," she advises. We both nod. I wonder who I'll form an alliance with, or if I'll stay by myself. I want to be in an alliance, but I'll be fine if I'm not.

For most of the time we have until we go, I think of strategies and tactics for the Games. Then we get transported from the Capitol to the Launch Center by a hovercraft. During the journey, a Capitol attendant inserts our tracker into our arm, it's what they use to track us in the arena. We soon arrive at the Launch Center. Each tribute gets lead to a room and our stylists are waiting for us. My stylist is Ciara.

I first get changed into the clothes that each tribute must wear in the Games. It's a silver and black t-shirt and leggings.

"You got this Sky. I know you, and you're one of the strongest tributes. Stay strong. We're all rooting for you," Ciara tells me one minute before I go into the tube. Ciara and I hug and before I know it, I have ten seconds left. My heart is pushing and my stomach is churning as I walk into the tube.

Soon file is up and the tube shuts with a snap. I take some deep breaths as it rises. It takes a few seconds before I open my eyes and we're in the arena.
