Holly Chang - District Seven

The past twenty years of my life have been pretty good. Let me rewind and start from the beginning. After we did the interviews, we got to go home. I was so happy to see my family again. And then a few days after being home, I was outside in the front when I looked over and saw Jordan and his family on the lawn next to ours. I jumped up and ran into his arms. His family had said yes to moving to Seven!!

I was so happy that day. Over a few years, our families have become good friends. Our parents laugh and talk together all the time. Jacob and Miri are really good friends. I also like Jordan's older brother. He's really funny and I can practice my comebacks on him.

Then, when Jordan and I were both twenty four, we got married in his backyard. Our parents surprise us by inviting Sky and Calvin and their families to the wedding!! We hadn't seen them in like eight years so it was really nice to see them. And the even bigger surprise was Sky and Calvin and their families were also moving to District Seven!! That was one of the best days of my life.

And right now, life is pretty good. I'm in the backyard of our house with Jordan and our five kids. The oldest is Sadie, she's eleven years old. Then we have twins, they're named Sage and Jake. They're nine. Next there's Jocelyn, she's eight. And finally there's William, who we named after Jordan's friend and our ally in the Games. He's six years old.

The kids all run into the house, leaving Jordan and I alone. "I can't believe twenty years ago we were in the Games," I say. "I know. But I'm so lucky to have you," Jordan says, putting an arm around me and kissing me on the cheek. "I'm lucky to have you too," I say back, smiling. We both walk inside.

I try not to think about how someday my kids could get reaped for the Hunger Games and might have to go into the arena. I push that thought to the back of my mind and think about how lucky I can to have everything I have. My kids, Jordan, my parents, and my sister. I did not want to be in the Games, but this is the best way it could've turned out.
