Dylan Melo - District Five

The first day of training was okay. My fellow tribute Marcus and I went to four different stations, wrestling, weightlifting, fishhooks, and swords. At wrestling, Marcus creamed me, but I was going easy on him. I'm saving my real strength for the Games. I was a lot better than Marcus at weightlifting, though.  I lifted eighty pounds and Marcus only lifted fifty pounds.

Marcus thinks he's so great, but really, he's a big fat flirt. When we were at fishhooks, he started talking about a girl named Sky who made in into the big Games.

"Do you know that girl Sky who made it into the big Games? She's so pretty, I can't wait to be allies with her in the big Games," he had told me. His ego is way too big, I think he needs to shrink it down. He doesn't even know if he'll make it into the big Games. If he does, I hope I'll be there too to see Sky reject him. That's gonna be funny.

Swords was okay, not my best weapon though. I'm good at weightlifting and wrestling. We tell our mentors Perry and Celine what stations we visited over breakfast. I leave out the part of Marcus daydreaming about Sky and naturally so does Marcus. After breakfast, we head down to training.

Marcus and I go to fire-starting. We learn how to make a fire by the leader.

"Can we go to gauntlets," Marcus says after his fire is done. He gets up and begins walking over, not even waiting for my response. I throw my hands up and sigh but follow him over there.

The gauntlets (obstacle courses) are near the back. Marcus points to one and says, "Let's go to that one." I open my mouth to say sure but once again he doesn't wait for my response and walks up to it.

Right before Marcus is about to climb onto it, Jordan Kervers from District Twelve walks up and is about to climb onto it. Marcus shoved him to the ground. "Hey! That was my course!" He yells.

I run over. I can't believe Marcus just did that. I quickly help Jordan up. "What was that for!?" Jordan shouts at Marcus. Marcus pushes him again. "That was my course!" Shouts Marcus. "Marcus calm the hell down! It's not just your course!" I yell. "Yeah." Jordan backs me up.

"Well I was there first. He stole it," Marcus says. He's acting like a child. By now there are trainers coming over. "It's not just yours buddy," Jordan mutters. Marcus goes to shove Jordan again, but I step in front of him. Marcus pushes me onto my back.

"Hey! What is your problem?!" Jordan angrily asks Marcus. Marcus makes a move to hit Jordan, but the trainers quickly rush over and pull them apart. Marcus mutters something Jordan helps me up. Then he turns to Jordan and says, "I'm coming for you." Then Marcus walks away and heads over to wrestling. He channels all his anger and rage into the person he's fighting. Glad it's not me.

Jordan thanks me for helping him and then heads over to his pack. I walk over to knives.

Tucker Leffler from District Ten is already there.

"Hi," he says. "Hey," I say back. We both do one round of knives and at the end we agree to be allies. I'd rather be with him than Marcus any day. Plus, he's good at throwing knives.
