Max's POV-
I rushed into the school, my clothes dripping with cold water and my curls bunched up in wet strands.
It had started storming right in the middle of my walk to school. Of course the one time I walked to school, I got drenched in water.
I wore an annoyed expression, my backpack hanging from my fingers as I walked silently through the hallways. I occasionally heard a crack of thunder outside, and that just made me even more angry. Usually I would feel relaxed from the sound, but this time I felt like it was just a reminder of the bad luck I had experienced.
A taller boy with a head full of black curls approached me, "Woah, did you go swimming or something?" Mike joked, shoving my shoulder playfully.
I shot a glare into his eyes and flipped him off hurriedly. "Shut the fuck up, Wheeler." I grumbled, shoving a wet strand of hair out of my face and putting in my locker combination.
"Hey guys-!" A cheerful voice beamed, I turned to face none other than Dustin. "Uh, woah, Max.. Your hair-"
"It's wet. I know." I sighed, turning back to my locker and grabbing my books.
"You could have gotten a ride with me, you know?" Dustin scratched the back of his head, feeling sorry for me.
"It's fine, ok? It already happened, there's no point in feeling sorry for me. I'm just wet, it's not like I died or anything!" I exclaimed, slamming my locker shut and joining the boys to walk to our advisory classroom.

It was the middle of first period, and Jane wasn't at a school yet. I was very confused considering how perfect her attendance record was, there had to be something wrong. I thought that it could possibly be because of the storm that was going on outside.
"Well, I had hope for our previous assignment, but only three out of fifteen students in this class turned it in." My tall, dull, math teacher brought a hand up to his forehead and massaged it with frustration.
Well no shit we didn't do it! Your depressing and lonely ass obviously didn't have anything better to do, since you gave us one night to finish an 8 page assignment!
I couldn't help but feel angry. First I got stormed on, and then my teacher gets mad because people including me didn't finish the assignment? Jesus christ, things couldn't get worse.
"Well, whoever didn't finish is going to have to stay after class to get a detention slip." He licked his teeth, gazing across the room and meeting my eyes. I returned a look that told him to fuck off, and he glared back before announcing tonight's homework along with the lesson.
I refused to pay attention, instead I glanced over at Jane's empty seat, wishing she was there. Everything was so dull and boring without her giggles and the notes she would pass me.
As if I was manifesting her arrival, the door opened, causing the algebra teacher to pause his speaking and all of the students' attention was directed towards the brunette standing in the doorframe.
"Miss.Hopper, I hope you know how late you are." The lanky man crossed his arms in her direction.
"I know sir, I'm sorry. My dad's car got stuck in a small flood downtown and it delayed me by a couple minutes-"
