Max's POV-

"Alright everyone, who wants to-" Mr.Wilson was cut off by a loud knock on the door. He made an annoyed expression before walking over to the door and opening it to reveal a girl I'd never seen before. She had shoulder length black hair, heavy eyeliner, and all black clothes. She eyed everyone in the room until her eyes stopped on the person beside me. Jane.

She smirked and walked over to sit in the empty desk beside her.

"Who are you again?" Mr.Wilson asked.

"A transfer student." She answered with an annoyed, disrespectful tone.

Mr.Wilson cocked an eyebrow and continued on with the lesson, but I didn't pay attention because I was too busy making sure she wasn't interested in Jane. All hope was crushed as the new girl looked Jane up and down while she wasn't looking.

She nudged Jane's foot with hers to catch her attention, and winked. Jane looked awfully confused and attempted to smile at her. When she tried to pay attention to class again, the mystery girl nudged her foot again.

"Yes?" Jane whispered to the girl.

"I don't know. You're just hot." She responded, not whispering at all.

I felt a pit of anger grow in my stomach as I clenched my hands. Who the hell does she think she is..

"Oh.. Well I'm trying to pay attention so-"

"Give me your number." She interrupted her.

"No thank you." Jane tried to give her a friendly smile before turning away from her.

That's my girl.

"Why not? You look like you could use a good time." She had the audacity to talk to her again.

"Could you actually shut up?" I snapped, causing Jane to look over at me with a shocked look.

"What did you just say?.." The girl asked with an aggravated tone.

"I said shut up. Jane doesn't want to listen to your bullshit and neither do I!" I lashed out.

"Girls! Enough! I am not in the mood to send you to the principals office Maxine, but if I have to I will." The teacher warned me.

"She's the one trying to seduce Jane back here!" I pointed at the new girl.

"Enough, Maxine!" He yelled, "Go walk around the school and come back when you've calmed down. If you lash out on her again you're going to the principals office."

"But I don't wanna leave her here alone with Jane, she's probably gonna harass her until she gets her number!" I complained.

"New student, move up here next to my desk." Mr.Wilson sighed. I found it funny he didn't even know her name. "Now go!" He pointed at the door while staring directly at me.

I huffed and stormed out of the classroom for what seemed like the thousandth time that year. I walked through the hallways, not able to think about anything but the new girl and her romantic interest for my girlfriend. I had never felt so angry and protective in my entire life.

"Max!"

I turned around to see Jane running towards me. I cocked an eyebrow, wondering what she was doing in the hallway.

"What the hell happened?" She asked, slightly out of breath once she finally reached me.

"She was hitting on you." I stated simply.

"But you didn't have to snap like that! You need to stop getting in trouble for stupid things like this!" She scolded me.

"I was doing us a favor!"

"By getting yourself in trouble and making an enemy??"

"I'm sorry okay? I'm sorry for telling her to shut up because she was bothering you! I'm sorry for being protective!"

"Don't make it sound like you didn't do anything wrong!"

"Are you saying she was the good guy??"

"No! You were both doing the wrong thing! We're going to be adults soon Max, start acting like one."

"I still don't understand how being protective isn't the right thing to do."

"Yelling at someone to shut up isn't mature max. Be the bigger person!"

"I'm sorry. I really am! I've never felt this way before, I've never felt this type of jealousy! And she was so pretty and confident, and I was jealous of that too! I was threatened Jane! In the moment I wasn't thinking straight and I was worried that you'd be interested in her and not me. I know it's stupid, but I've always had a fear of you leaving me, but in that classroom.. I.. I panicked.. And I wasn't being smart. I was being defensive." I explained. Throughout the long explanation I felt my anger turn into sadness and guilt.

Jane stared at me blankly for a few moments before pulling me into a hug, like the one she gave me when Billy died. She rubbed my back and buried her face into my neck.

"I'm sorry. I just want the best for you. That's all I've ever wanted. And when you get in trouble it makes me upset." She mumbled.

"I didn't know it made you feel like that.." I frowned.

We stayed in silence for a few minutes, soaking in each other's sympathy.

"I don't want to be mad anymore."

"Me neither."
