Max's POV-

My mom had prepared dinner in her crockpot, and I knew it. She didn't even tell me that she was cooking in her crockpot, but I could tell she was from the rancid ass smell coming from down the hallway.

"Let me guess, she's making her healthy soup thing again.." I mumbled to myself. I was laying flat on my stomach on my freshly clean comforter.

I had cleaned my comforter previously because I had caught Billy making out with a girl.. ON MY BED...
The memory of it made me want to vomit. I mean, what's the point of making out with a girl in someone else's bedroom that's literally a ten second walk from your own bedroom? He was drunk so I guess he wasn't thinking but still.. It was so weird

As I cringed at the memory, I tried to forget about it by continuing what I was doing earlier. I propped my head up with my fist, and flipped through the open photo book in front of me.

There were pictures of me and Jane in the photo book, but not just any pictures, embarrassing pictures. And when I say embarrassing, I mean embarrassing.

I had no idea how my mom had managed to take all of the photos, including pictures of fourth grade Jane drenching me in flour, me literally dying of the flu while Jane held my hair back over the toilet, Jane choking on pickle juice in the kitchen, both of us falling on our asses at the roller cave, me and Jane in the pool with those alien looking goggles on, and many more.

But one picture towards the end of the book caught my attention.. It wasn't really embarrassing, it was sweet. And it was probably the youngest picture we had together.

In the picture, we were both in our old kindergarten classroom, it looked like the first day of school considering how dressy our outfits were. Jane wore the cutest little white dress that had sewn on daisies, and her small white dress shoes along with ruffled white socks. Her hair was up in a little ponytail. I was wearing a red sweater and bell bottom denim jeans, with the cutest white sneakers ever. The front strands of my hair were clipped back with two butterfly clips. In the picture, we were hugging, and it looked like I was trying to pick her up. Jane's smile was so adorable, she didn't know how to smile properly for pictures at the time so her smile looked more like she was grinding her teeth together. Both of our eyes were slightly squinted, and you could tell that we were having a good time.

I couldn't help but take the picture out of the photo album to set on my nightstand. It was definitely the most wholesome and adorable photo I had ever found of us. Something about seeing us as innocent little children made my heart soften.

Of course, my wholesome moment had to be interrupted by my mom.

"MAX! DINNER IS DONE HONEY!" I could've heard her shouting from Germany considering how loud she was.

I groaned, I really didn't wanna eat my mom's healthy soup crockpot disaster, but I had no choice.

"Coming!" I responded loudly, shutting the photo album and rushing out of my room to get dinner over with.

Before I reached the dining room, a hand turned me around swiftly.

"If I die in there, don't blame it on mom. Blame it on the soup" Billy joked with a serious tone. I rolled my eyes at his immaturity as I walked out of his grip and into the dining room.

Much to my surprise, the three bowls were already sitting out with spoons and everything. I raised my eyebrows slightly. Usually we made our own plates..

"Sit down Max, I have something to discus with you" She sat down, looking at a paper in her hands. I could tell something was bothering her.

I sat across from her, nervously. I wasn't sure what I did wrong, but I could tell she was upset at something. Billy sat down beside me, sending me a weird look.

Mom coughed before starting, "Well, I got your report card today and I couldn't help but notice the D- you have in gym class." She handed me the paper, obviously disappointed.

I sighed at the paper, "He only gave me that grade because I called him a bald lonely hag when he made a girl with extreme period cramps do fifteen push-ups for being 'dramamtic'!" I admitted, handing the paper back to my mom.

"A bald lonely hag, eh?" Billy snickered. My mom shot him an angry look, and she gave an even angrier look at me.

"C'mon Max, I know you are tough, and you stand up for people, but behavior like that makes your grades go down!" She exclaimed.

"I have all A's in my other classes! And I only called him a bald lonely hag once." I reasoned, trying to get her to understand.

She cocked an eyebrow at me, and I could tell by the look on her face that she was considering listening to me.

"I only called him that, because he deserved it" I shrugged, picking up my spoon and hesitantly taking a sip of the soup.

The flavor wasn't pleasant.. Lets just say, if carrots could shart, that would be the flavor of my mom's soup.

I looked over at Billy to see how he liked the soup, and I saw tears glistening in his eyes.. It took me all of my self control to not laugh at him.

"Are you sure that's the only reason why you have a D- in gym?" My mom sighed.

I nodded quickly, and I wasn't lying either. I was actually good in gym class, and I was super competitive too. My competitiveness made the games pretty interesting.

"Alright fine" My mom exhaled through her nose, smiling ever so slightly.
