Max's POV-

It had been the most depressing day of my life. Well, the second most depressing day of my life. Billy's funeral was horrible. Not only did I have to sit through the never ending speeches from family members that barely even knew Billy, I also had to talk to every single one of them. Half of them looked on the verge of death. They'd all say, "Oh Maxine! I haven't seen you since you were a little girl!", and "I remember when you were in diapers!"...

The funeral was miserable enough to begin with.

I'm glad Jane came. So did Dustin, Will, Mike, Lucas, Nancy, Robin, and Steve. I didn't really invite them, but when there's a funeral in Hawkins everyone knows about it, and so a lot of friends of family members come.

Now I was laying in my bed. My safe space. The only place I wanted to be. And of course Jane was with me too.

"Fuck. Thanksgiving is coming up." I groaned at the thought of the stupid family holiday that only stable families enjoyed.

"Chill out Max, it's not even Halloween yet." Jane rolled her eyes jokingly.

"Still" I frowned, "What will I even do?"

"I'll come over and we'll finger paint turkeys and rub paint all over each other and then take a shower and then cuddle and then get married and then have children and th-"

"Woah woah woah I think you skipped a few years.." I chuckled.

"How do you feel about the name Evangeline?"

"Beautiful name Jane, might wanna write that down so we don't forget about it in 20 years." I joked.

"What?" Her mouth gaped, "20?.. Thats too long from now."

"Love, if you get baby fever just go play with Delilah. She's literally down the hallway." I gestured towards the door.

"She'll only be a baby for a couple years Max." Jane frowned.

"Better go steal her now then!" I sat up and pushed her to the edge of my bed encouragingly.

Jane rolled her eyes as she got off of my bed with hesitation. She glanced at me with puppy eyes one more time before opening my door and leaving to go look for Delilah.

I sighed to myself with a little grin once she was gone. She managed to make me feel light hearted and happy even in the darkest point in my life and I was so thankful for that. Nobody had ever been capable of impacting my life like that before. It still shocked me to my core that she was mine. I went from feeling absolutely awful about my brother to feeling like he never left. It was painful to think about the situation when I wasn't being distracted anymore, but Jane taught me that I could still feel happy, and that I wasn't going to be sad forever.

Jane rushed back into my room with Delilah squished in her arms. She hurried onto the bed with the baby and laid her down onto the soft comforter. She squished the baby's little cheeks and giggled when Delilah would react with a smile.

"See Max? You wanna wait 20 years for this?" Jane gestured towards the adorable child. To be honest, she almost convinced me to join her side, but then I remembered that adopting a kid before you're completely financially stable is a very bad idea.

"Listen, I'd have a kid sooner than 20 years if we weren't gonna still be young and broke. I mean, babies are super expensive and we probably won't be financially stable enough for a long time." I explained.

"It's not like I'm asking for a baby now.. Just in 6 years or something." She frowned.

"Jane you'd be 21." I sighed.

"But.. I see teens raise babies, and it's a little hard at first but they end up having a great life in the end." She reasoned.

"But here's the thing. The teens that get pregnant usually get pregnant on accident, and you cannot get pregnant from me, let alone on accident." I argued, "I wouldn't want you getting pregnant on accident anyways."

Jane looked down at the baby cooing at us, and smiled to herself. She was definitely thinking of something and I couldn't tell what it was.

"What are you thinking about?.." I questioned.

"I'm thinking about how cute your baby would look." She grinned and immediately went back to squishing the baby's cheeks.

"Like our baby if we could actually make a baby?" I asked.

"Well yeah." She replied as if it was obvious.

"I have to admit we would make a gorgeous baby." I agreed. She looked up at me and shot me a smile that I could stare at all day. The kind of smile that makes every inch of my heart light on fire with pure adoration.

"Why're you looking at me like that?" Her expression changed quickly and she stared into my eyes with a concerned look. "You look like you just had a vision."

"Oh, no, I was spacing out because your smile is so beautiful." I admitted. I watched as she blushed and looked down with a flattered smile. "I'm so in love with you." I added, as if she wasn't already flustered enough.

"Oh geez Max, you're gonna make me explode if you keep flattering me.." She fanned herself jokingly, but she genuinely looked like she was about to overheat.

I didn't respond, instead I just leaned forward and placed a kiss on her glossy lips. Mm, mangoes. I noticed she was wearing her mango lipgloss again, my absolute favorite. The kiss lasted about 10 seconds, but it didn't escalate. It was just a sweet, gentle kiss.

When she pulled away, she rested her forehead on mine and closed her eyes, "I love you so much."
