Max's POV-

It was a rainy Saturday morning, and I was standing outside of Jane's house to surprise her with banana chocolate chip muffins, her favorite.

I had made them at my house and taken the whole pan all the way to her house by foot. It only took me twenty five minutes to get there..

I knocked on the door, expecting Jane to answer, but the door was opened by Hopper almost immediately.

"Oh, um, hey chief." I smiled nervously. I didn't want him to think that I was weird for coming over at the ass crack of dawn with a pan of muffins. "I made these for Jane, is she awake?"

He raised his eyebrows, leaning against the doorframe with amusement plastered on his face. "Jane? Awake at seven thirty? I don't think so." He joked.

"Well, I could wait for her to wake up, if you're okay with that." I suggested.

He shrugged, stepping aside to let me into his cozy house. I entered and took of my damp shoes.

Although I was a little wet from the rain, it had almost dried up after standing under Jane's porch for a few minutes.

"You can go ahead and wake her up if you want, she won't get mad at you." He made a hand motion towards her bedroom door across the house, causing a smile to tug at my lips.

"I mean, she can't get mad at me since I brought her muffins." I joked, walking towards her room.

I heard a snicker escape the large man from across the room, and I turned Jane's doorknob, trying not to make a sound.

Memories from when she was sick flooded back like it was just yesterday, and it warmed my heart a bit. I missed taking care of her, but now she didn't need my care. I remembered feeling so special when she needed me by her side when she was sick.

I snapped out of my deep thoughts and approached her bed carefully.

"Janie bearrr," I mumbled, shaking her arm. "I brought you some muffins."

She was laying on her stomach as usual, with her right arm resting on her pillow. I was expecting her to get up immediately, but instead she grumbled something inaudibly as she grabbed my wrist and pulled me down next to her in the bed.

I quickly sat the muffin tray down on the floor, and shot a confused glance at Jane. She just pulled me closer and completely tangled her limbs around me. She hummed tiredly as she snuggled her face into my neck.

"Jane, honey, I can't breathe." I chuckled from how tightly she was grasping onto me.

She huffed and loosened her grip slightly, but she was still hugging me very closely.

"Do you want a muffin?" I asked, caressing her hand with my thumb.

"You're my muffin." She replied, snuggling into my neck even more, if that was even possible.

"You're so affectionate this morning, why is that?" I smiled, playing with a strand of her hair.

"You smell like cookies." The brunette mumbled randomly.

I cocked an eyebrow, "Cookies?"

"Yeah, freshly baked cookies." She responded.

I couldn't help but snicker at her comment and kiss her forehead. "But that didn't answer my question, why are you so lovey this morning?" I asked again out of curiosity.

She lifted her head, her brown strands of loose hair falling away from her face, "I don't need a reason to love my girlfriend that I missed all night."

I sat up with her, and pulled her into my arms once again, placing another kiss on her forehead in the process. "You are very correct."

"You keep missing, my lips aren't on my forehead." She pouted, leaning closer.

I leaned back from her teasingly and poked her nose, "No premarital kissing, Jane."

"What the hell! Don't act like you didn't practically grind on my lap during study hall last Friday.." She exclaimed, playfully slapping my arm.

"I wasn't grinding on your lap!" I defended myself, gasping sarcastically.

"Then what were you doing?" She rolled her eyes.

"If you think that I was grinding on you, that's really sad. I can do a lot better than sitting in place and doing math.." I sighed, shaking my head.

The doorknob turned suddenly, and I swear to god that it felt like my heart stopped. I just hoped that whoever was behind that door didn't hear our conversation.

Of course, Jim mother fucking Hopper walked through the doorframe with his arms crossed.

"Guess who's leaving the door open three inches from here on out?" He asked sarcastically with a grin, taking long steps towards us.

"Three inches?" I asked, confused as hell.

I looked over at Jane to see her face glowing red and an embarrassed look plastered on her face.

"Jane knows what I'm talking about, don't you?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Uhm.. yeah." She murmured.

"I don't have a problem with whatever is going on between you two, but I don't want you moving too fast in your relationship okay? I know how this stuff works." He explained, taking a seat at the end of Jane's bed.

"We weren't doing anything-"

"You will only have to keep the door open three inches for the first couple months of your relationship." He looked into my eyes seriously, almost scaring me.

"How did you know about-"

"I've known for quite a while, but that particular conversation made me realize that I need to set some boundaries."  He interrupted me yet again.

I had no clue what to say at that point, had he been spying on us? I didn't know whether I was supposed to be happy that he supported us or angry because he found out somehow.

"Gotcha, Hop." I replied cooly, patting his back.

"Well, that's all." He sighed as he stood up, "And remember, three inches." He added before exiting the room and cracking the door on his way out.

As soon as he was out of the room, I turned to Jane and giggled. "What the hell was that all about?" I whispered.

"He's just being a strict dad.. Now we can't even kiss." Jane thrusted herself backwards onto the pillows on her bed dramatically.

"Who said that?" I smirked, bending down and pecking her lips.

Her eyes widened with excitement, "It's about time you found my lips!"

I smiled at her lovingly. This girl has stolen my heart.
