Broken bonds

"Where are we going?"

"I need to sort some things out." I just answered. After five more minutes of silently walking, I stopped in front of a cream-colored house.

"Is this your house?" Jungwon asked and I nodded slightly.

I hesitated in front of the door. I tried finding the right words. Should I just confront her? Or should I say hi?
Hi mum, I'm back. I brought a vampire friend with me.
Hey mum, guess what grandma just told me.

Jungwon took my hand and squeezed it as if he was saying "I'm here with you."
I gave him a thankful look.

Then I rang the doorbell.

If I had my keys with me I would've just walked into the house but for the first time in forever I forgot them at home.

We've waited for a few minutes, Jungwon letting go of my hand as soon as the door opened.

My mum gave me a welcoming smile and Jungwon a rather...let's say confused look.
"He's a friend. The one who's birthday party I went to." I clarified and she let us in.
She was gesturing us to take a seat on the sofa but I refused.

"We need to talk, mum."
She got serious.

"I went to grandma." I started the conversation. And I could already tell that she was getting angry.

"You did what?!"

"I had every right to go there. She at least gave me the answers I needed. Or would you have told me that I died and dad sacrificed his life for me?!" I said, getting angry as well.

Her eyes got big after what I just said.
"What?" Her voice was just a whisper.

"She told me everything, mum."

I've waited for her to say something but she was speechless.

"Mum, can you a-"

"I forbid you to go there and you still did. You shouldn't have found out about all of this. I knew she would tell you. "

What?! I couldn't believe my ears.
"You're mad about me finding out?! I had every right to! It's about me and my life!"

"YOU ARE TOO YOUNG FOR ALL OF THIS. YOU DONT UNDERSTAND!" She raised her voice at me and I flinched.

"Too young?! MUM, ENOUGH! I WAS MAD AT DAD FOR LEAVING US ALONE MY WHOLE LIFE ONLY TO FIND OUT HE DIED FOR ME! You-."

My voice cracked. Tears rolled over my cheeks out of anger and sadness and all these emotions overwhelming me.

"You lied to me my whole life. And I don't care if you wanted to protect me but I had a right to know what happened to me. What might happen to me in the future." I continued, calming down.

"Y/n, stop it." She controlled her voice but I could see her body shaking out of anger.
"I had my reasons for not telling you. Now that you know, you'll be in danger. Your father wouldn't have wanted this."

"How do you know what he would've wanted?! You let him die!"

"He sacrificed himself! It was his decision!"

Frustrated, I screamed my next words at her : "THIS DECISION SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN MADE!"

Surprised, her and Jungwon looked at me.
"I'd rather be dead than knowing he died because of me." I said, clenching my jaw.
"Y/n.." Jungwon called out my name but I ignored him.

"I had to find out either way, mum. You couldn't have kept it a secret forever."
She brushed with both her hands through her hair. "Grandma shouldn't have told you."

"I found out without her about vampires and werewolves. She just told me about the missing pieces regarding myself."

My mum looked at Jungwon and understood what I just told her. In a second she had something that looked like a crossbow in her hands and was pointing at him.

Surprised, I got in front of Jungwon, shielding him with my body. I stretched out my arms to both sides to signalise my mom to stop.

"Get out of the way, y/n!" She screamed, but I didn't move an inch.

"Put that down!"

She refused.

"He's a vampire, y/n. He's dangerous."

Jungwon? Dangerous? If someone would have told me skydiving was dangerous I would have agreed with them but Jungwon? She clearly didn't know him.

"Mum, he's my friend and I won't let you hurt him."

"Then I have no choice."

Before I could ask what she meant by that she shot me. I just saw how something made out of wood was shot through the air coming near me in slow motion. Closing my eyes I've waited for it to pierce through me. But it never happened.

Hearing a loud groan I knew exactly what has happened. I opened my eyes and stared at Jungwon in shock.

He smiled at me in pain as he was hugging me to protect me from getting shot.
"No." I whispered and caught him in my arms as he was about to collapse on the floor. I could see the wooden thing sticking out of his back near his shoulder.

"STOP!" I screamed at my mum.

"Jungwon." He opened his eyes.
"Jungwon." I sobbed. I held him in my arms, sitting helplessly on the floor.
I couldn't stand up and carry him out of here as it was too difficult to do so. There was only one way to leave this place.

"You need to bring us out of here."
I whispered.
Leaning into his shoulder, I hugged him as tight as I could.
He nodded and with all the strength he had left, he teleported us out of this house.

I saw the face of my mum right before we disappeared. Grief, anger, fear.
But I didn't care. The only thing I had on my mind at that moment was Jungwon.
