Place I once called home

40 missed calls.
I stared at my lockscreen for a few minutes before I completely turned off my phone so that no one could reach me.

Putting it back into the pocket of my jacket, I let out a heavy sigh and plopped down onto a bench nearby.

It was weird that the first place I went to after all that has happened a while ago was my house.

I just sat there, staring at the creamy-colored walls of the place I once called home.
I never came back to see my mum after what happened between us. Still, my heart took me here.

I watched closely as I saw a figure moving from the living room to the kitchen.
She still didn't get any curtains for the windows even tho I told her several times that strangers could easily stalk us from outside.

I smiled. A sad smile.
Then we suddenly made eye contact. And we both looked at each other, frozen in our movements. Confusion, surprise and relief were written on her face, I panicked and stood up to turn away from her gaze and go.

But I stopped when she yelled my name.
And even tho I was torn between going back to her or to just walk away my body already turned around by itself, facing her.

Tears were running down her face as she gave me her motherly smile. And I couldn't help but to tear up as well.
"Mum." I whispered and she made her way towards me to embrace me in a warm hug.

"I'm so sorry y/n." Her voice sounded muffled.
"No, I'm sorry for not understanding you mum. I know why you kept it a secret from me and that you just wanted what's best for me."

She pulled me closer and hugged me so tight as if she never wanted to let go of me again.
"Let's go inside."

"So Claire really died?"
I nodded.
"And you almost killed that woman, who killed Claire?"
Again, a nod.

"Did you know?"
This time it was her, who answered me with a nod.

"This is why I didn't want you to know. The spell was to protect you, it's true. But it was to protect you from doing something that would hurt the people around you. I didn't want you to live a life like that. In fear, knowing you could kill someone with your own hands by accident."

"I almost did." I gulped. While listening to my mums words I looked at my hands and slowly balled them into fists.
"I almost killed someone and hurt the most important person in my life. I don't know if I can be around them anymore. I- I don't know when I will lose control."

"You're talking about that boy, right? The vampire. Is.." she hesitated to finish her question.

"Is he alright?"

After you almost shot him to death you mean?
That would've probably been my answer as sarcastic as I was but I wasn't in the mood to answer like that.

"He's doing alright."
It wasn't a lie. It wasn't the truth either tho.

She nodded and sat down on the couch.
"I'm sorry y/n, I was in panic and your grandma taught me to not let these creatures near you."

"I know mum. It's alright. He's not dead. Well..you know what I mean."

"It's still so surreal that they exist."

"I should've never met them." I mumbled, playing with the hem of my skirt.

"Don't say that y/n. It might have not been the best time since you've met them but I can see how close you got to them. I can see it in your eyes. And judging by the things you told me you're more than important to them as well."

I tried to hold back tears at the words of my mum. She was right. But I still wasn't ready to go back.

"Can I stay here for the night?"

"Of course." She didn't even ask any further question and just smiled.

"Now come on. I'll make us dinner."
