On the Destiny Islands, Riku sat on the beach, staring out at the setting sun.
"How long have you known that I was with you?" someone asked. Riku looked over at the voice, his initial surprise turning to warm comfort.
"You DID save me," he said. Next to him was Repliku. "I think you came along for a reason."
"I didn't make much of myself as a replica. I was a failure, and after you and Sora moved on, my body fell to ruin and the darkness took my broken mind. I was all ready to give up and let it happen, and then you showed up." Riku gave a small laugh.
"You took that as a sign?" he asked.
"Maybe. I'd rather face my end with you than in darkness," Repliku smiled.
"That's...what you want?"
"Yeah. But I'm not done yet. Got one last thing to see through."
"Take the time you need."
Sora and Kairi sat on the small island next to the Seashore, watching Riku.
"Hey, why's Riku all alone?" Sora asked.
"He said he needed time to himself. Let's let him be," Kairi replied. Sora heard a rustling and Kairi handed him a star-shaped fruit. "Here."
"Huh?" Sora asked surprised. He looked down at the paopu fruit and up to Kairi's smiling face.
"Tomorrow's fight will be our toughest yet. I want to be a part of your life no matter what. That's all," she said. Sora took the fruit from her.
"Kairi, I'll keep you safe," he said. Kairi shook her head.
"Let ME keep YOU safe," she said. What once was just a symbol drawn on a cave wall had now become real. They stared into each other's eyes in the glow of the setting sun.
