Master Yen Sid knew that Sora and Riku still had a lot to learn before they could stop Master Xehanort, so he prompted them to take the Mark of Master exam. Xemnas had told the girls that another Spirit was trapped in the Sleeping Worlds, who they later remembered that the Spirit was Rumi, the lost daughter of Ansem and Lady Elena. The exam required the two to dive into the Sleeping Worlds and reawaken them by unlocking their Keyholes. But an unfortunate encounter caused the two boys and the girls to be flung into different worlds. After Rumi was saved, she went with them to help awaken the Sleeping Worlds. Fighting alongside benevolent Dream Eaters, they carried on. Suddenly, a boy in a black coat appeared, who was (Y/N)'s father's younger self.

So Crusty had kidnapped me, again. But while I was being held captive, I was reunited with Vanitas. Sora, Riku, and the girls continued traveling from dream to dream. However, Crusty's younger self, Anti-Elena, and Ant-Muki appeared everywhere Sora and my friends went, misleading them with every encounter. Meanwhile, Mickey was caught up in one of Maleficent's schemes. But he was saved by Lea, formerly known as Axel, the twins and Rumi's uncle, and from Organization XIII. Master Yen Sid agreed to make Lea a Keyblade wielder to catch Crusty off guard in hopes of defeating him.

Sora thought he had completed his exam but found himself in the World That Never Was, the twin's birth home. There, he was lured into the depths of darkness captured to become the fourteenth vessel for Master Xehanort, (Y/N) being the thirteenth. Meanwhile, Riku had arrived to find Sora trapped in a bad dream. Xemnas, Ansem, and their daughters were planning on how saving (Y/N), Elena, and Muki. Riku learned that he unwittingly dived into Sora's dream and protected him from nightmares as he slept. Master Xehanort managed to regain his form, but he was caught off guard, by Xemnas, Ansem, and their daughters. Xehanort was unable to carry out his plan. Then he vanished, his parting words foretelling a war that was yet to come...

After being saved by my friends and my brother, I was sleeping from my power being abused by Crusty. In order to wake Sora, Riku dived into his dream once more. Riku continued deeper into Sora's dream, where he encountered those whose hearts were sleeping inside Sora's heart. Thanks to their help, Sora managed to wake up safe and sound, and Riku was made a Keyblade Master. Sora helped me wake up by starting a bond, what would later be known as the Bond of a Spirit. Lea had become a Keyblade wielder...and Kairi was brought in to become a new member of the guardians of light.
