Hermione and Ron go to his room to chat. No one else took note of what was about to happen except you. You knew why Hermione asked to talk to him.

The rest of the group stayed around the fire for an hour.

"I think I'm gonna head off to bed," Neville announced.

"That's a good idea," followed Harry. Slowly but surely, everyone made it back to their rooms.

You had a knot in your stomach walking up the stairs. You prepared to comfort Hermione's crying mess waiting in your room. You open the door. "Hey, 'Mione," you say in a gentle manner.

To your surprise, she wasn't a mess. In fact, she wasn't even crying. She had her nose in a book, snacking on some mini cookies. "Oh, hey y/n." She looks up from her book.

You were caught off guard by her pleasantness.

"Everything okay?" She asks, questioning the confused look on your face.

"Yeah, I just- I thought you were going to break up with Ron tonight.

"Oh I did."

"W-well how did it go? Did he take it well?" You sit on her bed.

"Yeah." She takes a bite of cookie. "The feeing was mutual. Or shall I say no feeling." She gave a forced laugh. It's clear that she isn't upset by this.

"So are you still in good terms?"

"I hope so," she says. "It wasn't that awkward." She offers you a cookie which you gladly accept. "We hugged after."

"Well that's good."

The subject changes and you end up watching a movie on Netflix together.

A little while later, you couldn't contain your curiosity of what's going on with Ron in the boy's dorm. You text Harry: How's Ron taking it?

Harry: Taking what?

You: Did he not tell you?

Harry: He's not here. What is it?

Oh shit, you think to yourself.

You: I'll tell you later, Harry.

For now, you need to find your best friend, and you know exactly where he is. "I'll be back in a while. You can continue without me," you tell Hermione. She continues watching the movie as you grab a jacket, and head out of your room.

There's a place where Ron always goes when he needs time alone. You head down the corridor and walk outside, finally making it to the quidditch stands. Knew it.

You walk over to him on the bleachers. You put a hand on his back as you sit down.

He's wearing a tan jacket and a maroon winter hat, but still looks cold. He's rubbing his hands together in an attempt to make them warmer, and his cheeks and nose are red.

"How long have you been out here?" You don't plan on mentioning Hermione. You're just here to comfort your best friend.

He takes a breath before saying "probably half an hour." Like Hermione, he isn't crying. He looks a little aggravated or lost, but it isn't anything he'll dwell on for long. "We broke up," he says.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be," he looks over to you. "It wasn't meant to be... the sparks left. There was nothing left for us there." He exhales, and you're able to see his breath in the air.

"It's gonna be okay," you say, giving him a reassuring smile.

"Yeah." He returns the smile, and you hug. "Thanks, y/n."

"Let's get you inside."

The next day, breakfast wasn't awkward. Everyone was talking with each other.

As you were eating, Harry's owl Hedwig dropped a small heavy package into Harry's bowl, splashing cereal everywhere. Ron and Hermione looked at each other from opposite sides of the table, but burst out laughing. It's good to see they can still get along as friends.

"What is it, Harry?" You say through laughs.

"I'm not sure," he says, wiping milk from his classes with the sleeve of his robe.

You fish it out of his bowl, and shake it to get the milk off. The parchment's now wet. Hopefully there wasn't an important message on it. "It feels like a rock," you say.

"Let me see that." Ron grabs it out of your hand and unwraps the parchment. "Look! It is a rock!"

"Is it magical or something? Who sent it?" Hermione asks, eager for another adventure.

Ron struggles to read the handwriting on the wet parchment. "It says 'don't bother coming home for Christmas, Dudley.'"

You burst out laughing.

"Dudley sent you a Rock, Harry!" Ron shouts over the laughs of you and Hermione.

"I wasn't planning to go back anyways!"
