Later that night, you're lounging in your dorm with Hermione, both reading in your beds.

"Hey y/n," she says, her voice flat.

You put down your book. "Yeah?"

"Do you love Draco?"

That's a silly question. "Of course I love Draco, and he loves me. We remind each other every day." You roll over to face her as a smile comes across your face. She's still laying down, staring at the ceiling. "I didn't even know this amount of love existed before Draco. He makes me so happy, 'Mione."

You look at her as her face grows red and uneasy. "Hermione, are you okay?"

There's a silence. She closes her eyes and her chest rises and falls as she lets out a shaky breath.

Your tone changes, sounding more comforting. "Are things okay with you and Ron?"

Hearing his name made her crack. She sits up and holds her head in her hands as you rush over to sit next to her.

"You were describing how you feel about him," she starts, tears forming on her eyes. "I- I don't feel that anymore, with Ron." She looks at you with hitting eyes. "The past couple months just-" It's as if she can't find her words. "It just hasn't been the same between us, and I think he feels the same."

You pull Hermione in for a hug, and she cries over your shoulder.

You talk to her for what seems like hours. Draco texted you after practice to meet up with him, and it was difficult saying no. You needed to stay by your friend's side.

Eventually, you guys fall asleep. You're worried for their relationship, but maybe it's for the best.

In the morning, you go to breakfast. Hermione acts like everything's fine. She's good at hiding her emotions.

After classes, you go to the common room to find Ron sitting alone. "Hey, Ron," you say, taking a seat next to him on the sofa.

"Oh, hey y/n."

"Could I ask you something?"

"You just did," he grins.

You roll your eyes and take a deep breath. "How are things with you and Hermione?"

Just like Hermione, his smile dropped. He looks empty inside. "Honestly, not too great."

You move closer to your best friend, putting an arm around his shoulder.

"It's just... these past couple months haven't been the same. I- I'm not sure we love each other anymore."

Those words break your heart. You're surprised he isn't crying. How is it possible for someone to stop loving?

That evening, you go to see Draco. "Hey babe, I've missed you." He pulls you in for a hug.

"It's Hermione and Ron," you say, looking up at him with a concerned face.

"What do you mean?"

"It's not looking too good for them."

Draco moves his hands down your arms to hold your hands in his.

"I think they might break up," you say.

"That's quite a shame. They really seem perfect for each other." Draco's sad to hear the news. Being your boyfriend, he's gotten to know your friends pretty well.

After a couple seconds of silence, you look into his grey eyes and almost whisper "that's never gonna happen to us, right?" You already know what his answer will be. If anything, he looks almost mad that you would ask such an absurd question.

"Y/n, you know that will never be us. I have never and will never doubt my love for you."

That last sentence gave you intense butterflies. You grab his face and kiss his soft lips.

The next week was slow. The days just get colder and colder as the fall season continues to engulf Hogwarts. It's gotten quiet with Draco always at practice.

Hermione hasn't been herself lately. She and Ron are still together, but there's clear tension around them. She puts on a smile. I wonder how long this will go on for.

It's Friday night, and you've all finished your school work. You, Hermione, Harry, Ron, Neville and Ginny all crowd around the fireplace talking about your week. Hermione seems fidgety as she holds her boyfriend's hand.

"So," Harry starts. "Are you guys excited for our first game?"

"I'm bloody excited," Neville says, sitting upright in his chair.

"We're up against Hufflepuff," Ron adds before Ginny interrupts him.

"We're doing very well this year, so I'm not too nervous." She miles at Harry, and ruffles his hair as he starts to blush.

Hermione's grip loosens around Ron's hand. "Can we talk?" She says, quiet enough to not disturb the rest of the group.

"Yeah, I've actually been meaning to talk to you too," he mutters. No 'baby,' no 'darling,' no smile.
