"That was amazing" you say to Hermione. You take off your heels and flop on your bed.
"It really was," she says in agreement. "That Cedric sure knows how to dance."
"Speaking about him... that was just a dance, right? Like you aren't going to date him now, are you?"
"Heavens no! I know how much he has pestered you and Draco. I just had no one to go with, and he asked me. That's all it was."
"You know, 'Mione, you could have gone with Ron, even if it was as friends" you say, taking the pins out of your hair, causing it to fall.
"I would have if he asked me. I had to go with someone, and if he asked me a week ago, I would have gladly gone with him instead of Cedric." She seems regretful.
"I'll be back in a bit," you say, throwing a coat over your dress. You slide your feet into your Nikes and head out to the quidditch stands hoping to find Ron; that's his comfort place.
"Hey Ron," you say, sitting next to him. "You alright?"
He sighs and leans on the row of benches behind you. "I'm not sure I am." He exhales a puff of cold air. "I still love Hermione." You can hear in his voice that he's broken. "The breakup just made me realize how much I need her. And I let her go. And now- now she doesn't love me anymore." His voice cracks.
You wrap your arms around him and he breaks down into sobs.
You comfort Ron as he has to you countless times before. He cries over your shoulder, and you rub his back. He's hurting. His heart is broken.
"It's all going to be okay in the end" you say as he pulls away.
"Says the girl who has a perfect romance" he stutters through a shaking breath.
"No, it's true! Any girl would be lucky to have you."
He looks away. "Hermione doesn't want me. And she's the only one that matters." He breaks into sobs again, putting his elbows on his knees.
Your legs start to shiver from the crisp March air.
"You can go," Ron says. "I want to be alone."
You feel bad leaving him, but he probably does just want some time to himself, so you stand up to leave, taking one last look at your broken friend.
I wonder if Hermione still has feelings for Ron?
Your mind is busy as you walk back through the grounds.
Did she go with Cedric to get over him? Make him jealous? Surely not. No, I bet it solely was because he asked her.
You quietly walk back to your room and get ready for bed.
You lay in your four-poster, staring at the dark ceiling.
The only light in the room is coming from Hermione's desk lamp, shining on the book she's engulfed in. "Hey Hermione," you say, catching her attention. "Are you sure you and Ron were meant to break up?"
You hear her shut her book and sigh. "I'm not sure. I felt sure, but I miss him. Well, I'm not sure if I miss Ron or if I miss just being in a relationship." She looks over to you. "I just need to sort out my emotions. I think it's good that we- sometimes you just need a break... and maybe we will get back together. It's too early to tell."
"Yeah," you say warily. Hermione's words are still resonating in your head.
She clicks off the light and her blankets rustle as she gets comfy for the night.
Sometimes you just need a break? Those words scare you. Will Draco and I ever need a break? Your stomach ties in a knot just thinking about not being in a relationship with your soulmate.
