Sofia's POV
As I pulled open the glass door of the cafe, a strong scent of coffee beans passed through my nose. Not far from the entrance, I spotted Desmond sitting next to a window. While sipping onto his coffee, I walked over to him with a wave as I took a seat in front of him.
"How have you been Sofia? It's been quite long since we last saw each other" said Desmond with a bright smile, pushing a cup of coffee in front of me
"Good, what about you?" I answered, slowing nodding my head in response of thank you
Desmond blink his eyes slowly while nodding his head once "I'm good too, so what's up, I've brought the books like you ask"
After taking a sip of my coffee, my hand reach out to the umbrella, passing it into Desmond's hand. His gaze was focusing onto the crest, while his free hand were turning the book pages as fast as he could
I had my hopes high, hoping Desmond could find out something about this crest. Even if the note did state about the perfect time, being a girl who's trying hard to be patient is clearly not working.
"Huh that's weird, I remember having a vision of seeing this crest on one of the pages before. But I can't seem to find it" He look up from the books, passing back the umbrella "Did you check the Internet"
"Of course I did" I replied with a quick response, showing him my search history "There. I tried looking from every possible question that would lead to it"
Desmond then paused for a second, picking up a few books from his bag. As he continued to search for anwsers, I reach for one of his book lying in front of me untouched.
My fingers run through the contents of the book, trying to find any word related to 'crest' . No luck at all
Both Desmond and I sat there for a good whole hour trying to search for this crest printed on the umbrella. We've been searching through each book Desmond brought, but no answer were found either
"Why aren't we searching on the Internet? Wouldn't that be faster?" I asked looking at Desmond with a tired eyes
"Well, no information appeared when you were searching, so I was thinking the books would be even more useful" Desmond said, closing one of the books
I nodded understandingly as I continue looking through the book. Soon later, we ran out of books, still nothing was found within the books we brought.
I let out a deep sigh, while one of the waiter passed us our third cup of coffee. Desmond gave me a tiny smile of encouragement continuing with "We could try the royal library"
"But we have no access to it" I let out another sigh, resting my head onto my hand
"Access to what?" A deep male voice asked. I slowly turn my gaze to the voice, finding Hugo standing next to our table "What are you two doing here"
He then pulled a chair, sitting in between us, uninvited. Hugo's was rather surprised seeing some books were laying on the table
"Since you're here, do you recognise this crest?" I asked, giving Hugo the unbrella
Unlike Amber and Desmond who took a while to look at it, he just placed it back down with a no as an answer. I didn't think any much of his answer, knowing that Hugo wouldn't be interested in histories of family crest.
" But it does looks familiar" He added "Why are you searching for this crest though? "
With that question, Desmond who now appears to be interested with the reason of me finding the origin of the crest. I didn't mentioned 'why' I was searching for it, since the reason isn't really important to him anyway.
Silence filled around our table, the chattering of other customers were hearable, easy to eavesdrop if we kept continuing to be in silence. I can't really escape this question now, with the both of them putting all their attention onto me.
"Are you trying to-" Desmond broke the silence, looking at me with a suspicious face
"No no no" I quickly corrected him "I'm not trying to do anything illegal"
Hugo then let out a slight laugh, readjusting his position. He had his hand covering half of his face as he eyes were focusing onto me "Are you hoping it's Daxton's?"
"Wait- who's Daxton?" a confuse Desmond asked looking at the both of us left to right.
I felt like my heart stopped for a few seconds, hearing those words coming out from Hugo's mouth. I don't even know why am I that shock about him asking that question.
Is it because part of me was actually hoping it was his stuff? But the crest doesn't even match his family's
"What?" the word slipped through my mouth. It didn't sound like I'm asking it confidently, but a feeling of confuse, unsure of what I'm thinking nor doing
Hugo was still starring into my eyes not continuing with his question. Inside of me, I was begging him to at least anwser my question instead of continuing
Desmond suddenly cleared his throat, allowing me to loose focus on every feelings within me as I paid attention to him
"It's umm- getting kinda personal" He said slowly, not trying to offend anyone here "What about the royal library? Tomorrow?"
Knowing Desmond, he doesn't like to be in a mess which doesn't includes him, actually he doesn't even want to be in a mess with anyone
"Sorry" I apologise, looking away from embarrassment "Sure, yes tomorrow it is, I'll try to get the access"
Hugo let out a sigh as his hand run through his jet black hair pushing it backwards "No need for that, I have it but I'm coming too"
"Problem solved, tomorrow 2 p.m?" Desmond suggested while packing his stuff into his bag
Both me and Hugo nodded our head in agreement. After finishing up everything that's left on the table, we bid our goodbyes, departing from different direction.
Before I could get onto my coach, a pair of hands stopped me on my track. Those hands were warm and that familiar touch, I knew right away that it was Hugo.
"Don't- don't turn around" those words immediately came out from his mouth before I could turn around to face him
He didn't continue his sentence, nothing but silence was swarming around us. Just as I was about to ask him a question, Hugo suddenly beat me to it
"I know"
Know? What could he possibly know about?
"I know how you feel, it's obvious" he continued with a softer and lower voice, more like whispers
Did he get the wrong idea? Wait no, it isn't supposed to be like this.
"Wait Hugo-"
"Listen to me first" He interrupted. "I'm sorry about just now, but I felt happy, for you"
Hugo slowly let go of his grip on my shoulder. The sound of his footsteps were getting further and further away, as a response I turn my head around looking for Hugo
I wanted to say something to him, no matter how I tried, I couldn't speak. It felt like my lips were glued together and can't opened it.
I should have told him sooner, before things gets even complicated. Since I know both Daxton and Hugo had a thing for me, but I'm afraid that I'm giving Hugo the wrong idea, the idea of hope.
Based on everything he just said, to me it looks like he got everything wrong and now he has even more hope within him.
How will I ever break the news to him? I don't want to loose a friend like him.
