Chapter 45

Sofia's POV

"Sofia, I like you" those three words. I could not process what I just heard, a love confession from Daxton. I'm not feeling excited at all. Maybe it's because I knew how he felt about me. Emotions were flowing and mixing within me, I was at a lost for words. Part of me feels like I'm lying to myself, part of me is just confuse. 

"I...." The words doesn't seem to be coming out right now. I like him too, right? Why can't I just return how I feel about him. Just go for it, it'll be fine! "I... I feel the same way about you too." A small smile is plastered on to my face, making Daxton let out a chuckle.

Right when I said those words, I find myself couldn't stop smiling and my eyes were also getting watery. All those emotions before were just trying to confuse me after all. 

Daxton slowly lean in planting a small peck onto my forehead making me blush. A light unique and refreshing scent of Daxton's cologne passes through my nose. "I'm so happy," Daxton said, the smile on his face were brighter than ever "I'm so lucky to have you, I don't even know what to feel right now." 

"Me neither," I chuckled, pulling in a hug between us.

Suddenly, there was a rustling sound around a bush that was located not far from where we were standing. "What is that?" I asked while pulling out from the hug. Before I could take a step further from Daxton's embrace, he held onto my hand begging me to wait a little while.

"Stop stepping on my heels!" someone exclaimed from the bush.

"They probably already knew we were here," said Hugo, appearing behind the bush, "and I'm blaming you." Hugo stepped out from his spot, dusting off the leaves and twigs that were stuck to his suit.

Eleanor soon walk out from her spot with an annoyed expression. "If only you hadn't made a fuss about-" her eyes then widened as she face towards Hugo "oh shit." she mouthed the words, pupils slowly facing the ground, only to receive a glare from Hugo.

Daxton let go of my hand, walking towards Hugo with a reassuring smile on his face. " I know you're worried about Sofia, since she is like a sister to you," he placed a hand onto Hugo's shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm gonna make her happy, and keep her safe."

Hugo took a look at Daxton from head to toe, before brushing Daxton's hand off his shoulder, he scoffed while shaking his head "It doesn't matter if you could keep her safe or not, because she is strong to protect herself from harm," he then paused for a while, his gaze piercing into Daxton's eyes "You better not hurt her."

Even though I am not the one, who is receiving Hugo's deadly gaze, I could feel shivers running down my spine. I never knew Hugo was this protective over me, but hearing Daxton stating that Hugo treated me like his own sister, made my heart tighten, why is that?

"Stop it," I shake my head with a smile forming at the end of my lips "I don't even think James were ever this protective." 

Hugo take a step back while shrugging his shoulders, "I'll leave you two alone then." Without wasting any time, Hugo then walked away leaving us behind. 

Eleanor let out a sigh before excusing herself as well. "Same here, congratulations you two, make sure to enjoy, I'll be excusing myself too."

Daxton called my name with a soothing yet passionate tone, as I face Daxton, he gave me a warm affectionate smile with his hand grabbing onto mine "Shall we take a walk?" he asked, lowering his upper body to match with my height.

I nod my head lightly. The both of us begin walking through the garden filled with lights dangling around the bushes alongside with each standalone lamppost in every part of the garden. Silence fills the atmosphere with every step we take, it wasn't awkward but peaceful and quiet. There isn't a lot of stars out tonight, but there sure was one brightest one among them.

Suddenly I remember a question I asked him months ago and decided to ask him once again "What about Sienna?" Daxton look confuse, continuing with a what. "You told me you like Sienna moths ago, what happened to that?" I added.

"Oh that..." said Daxton, rubbing the back of his hair with his right hand "It was actually a lie, I couldn't possibly tell you the truth back then," he answered with his eyes avoiding contact with mine, probably he was shy about it "It was hard to keep it a secret from you." he then let out a sigh which make me chuckle.

Time really flies quickly whenever you are having fun. It's also about time where our graduation night has come to an end. Before leaving the school, I went back inside the school to grab a few last things that were left behind in my locker. 

Walking past each corridor, every turn of the building, I couldn't believe that when I take a step out away from the main gate, I'm no longer a student here but an ex-student. There were a lot of memories made throughout my past 5 years at Corinthians sports school, and now I'll take this memories along with me to make new ones in University.

Once I open my locker, I found a little note laying on top of my book. It must be from the same person who gave me all those letters before. I thought to myself. Elegant calligraphy words were written on the paper, I've always admire their handwriting, every time it makes me go in awe.

Eleanor's POV

"Hugo wait!" I called out to him. I knew one of them would get hurt, especially Hugo who had been with Sofia the longest, and who love her since the beginning when I met them 5 years ago in English class

Hugo finally stop in his steps, as I walk towards him, his eyes were focusing onto the ground. "Hugo, Sofia is happy right? So you have to move on," I spoke softly trying to comfort him "It'll just hurt for a few weeks-"

"What do you know!" he snapped "You know nothing, nothing at all!" 

For a moment I couldn't form any sentence, he is right, I know nothing at all. I don't know how it feels to have my special someone to love another person. 

Hugo starts to walk away in sadness only to be grab by me on the wrist "Can we just sit down and talk it out? I know it's hard right now," I begged "You might need to be alone, but since we are friends, you could use an accompany." 

Hugo hesitate for awhile then shoving my hand away from him. He took a seat at a nearby staircase which is a sign from him agreeing to have a little chat. Once I take a seat beside him, he say "You have a happy relationship with Owen, how could you help me because you don't know how hurtful it is."

I let out a sigh "We weren't together, I don't have any romantic feelings for him," I continue "but, it is true that I know nothing of how you are feeling."  

"I know how deeply you love her, but it might be the time that you had to move on," I said looking at him. Hugo didn't say a word as he stare into a pitch dark sky. "It might be hard, but she's happy, wouldn't you want her to be happy too?"

Hugo finally gives me his attention while letting out a sigh "What if I don't want to give up?"

"What?"

"I don't plan on giving up just yet," he repeated "I know it's unhealthy but I just can't press an undo button to erase the feelings I had for her in a split second." Hugo lean both of his arm back on the staircase, shutting his eye "I wish the best for Sofia, I want her to be happy, but I'll still try my best."

I'm glad he is calming down, even if I don't know how he was feeling before but I sure do know how hard it was for him back then behind the bushes. I placed my hand over his shoulder while patting it "Whatever feelings you find hard to deal with alone you could always find me."

"Like you could give any advice, when you know nothing." he sneered 

I gasped sarcastically "I feel hurt," I jokingly said "Although I know nothing, I still have the knowledge to help you." I heard a soft chuckle from Hugo, which makes me smile. It's better to see him smile and laugh more. These three people are important to me, they're like family, I wouldn't want them to ever feel down, no one would want their dearest people to be sad.

"I heard you chuckle." I teased him as I keep on poking his waist

"Shut up-"
