Sofia's POV
Like any other day, we have classes throughout the day then go back home. Since winter break is drawing nearer, students were busier than usual.
Most of the projects are due the day before winter break and because of that, the school library was packed with students, what was shocking was the line in front of the library before it even opened.
Usually during the finals months this kind of situation would occur often, or that's what I've heard from the seniors but the project completion season was also a time where the library was fully packed.
I was on my way to find Eleanor in her department, because she wasn't picking up any of my calls and we still had some work to finish.
While walking down the hallway, I saw James, who was right up ahead. "James!" I called out. James then turned his head towards my direction, pushing his chin upwards lightly as a sign of yes. "Have you seen Eleanor? She isn't answering any of my calls."
He shook his head, "Nope, haven't seen her, you should check with Amber, she would know," James slowly let out a uncertain smile. "I think."
"Could you help me? My battery is about to die soon," I said, showing him my phone's battery percentage. "Please."
James let out a huge sigh then pulled his phone out "You should really carry a power bank with you." Even though James looked annoyed upon my request, he still did help me to contact Amber.
While James was busy contacting Amber. A girl walked pass me, and she caught my attention. Instantly, I recalled her being in one of Hugo's classes.
Since the school is huge, I hardly ever meet her nor do I know her name. But what I do remember was the phone call she had with Hugo around a month and a half ago.
Should I ask her for her name? Would it be weird that I would suddenly want to know her name despite being in a different department?
"I'm here." a voice spoke, interrupting my train of thoughts. It was Hugo.
"Do you know where Eleanor is?" I asked, only do I realize that it was such a random question to ask someone who had just arrived. "Uhm sorry, it's nothing."
Silenece began to fill the atmosphere, until he said, "I know," raising a finger pointing towards the hallway "She's in class 09, you do know where that is right? Well then you could go there by yourself."
"Amber said she hasn't seen her since lunch." James interrupted before I could answer Hugo's question.
"Come on let's go," Hugo grabbed my hand, holding it as we walk down the hallway.
"Where are you two going?" James questioned in a loud voice.
"I'll bring her back to you later!" Hugo too replied in a loud voice without turning to look back.
His hand, are warm. I felt it again, the feeling, that warm feeling. What I am feeling right now, I don't want to think any further since I already have a boyfriend and it is wrong to do that but it doesn't seem like I actually like him. Daxton doesn't usually hold my hand, instead he keeps on pouring hugs and enjoys more of poking my cheeks and teasing me.
But I still could not understand why he is leading me to Eleanor when he was the one who told me to walk there myself. Should I ask him? Maybe not.
"She's just right upfront, go on. I'll wait." He held out a hand gesturing me to continue walking forward.
As I walk forward, I felt my heart is pulling within me, making me feel as if my whole body was shrinking. Part of me wanted him to walk by my side, instead of waiting for me a few feet away from the lecture hall. I want to be able to talk to him even more, like we used to but after I started dating Daxton the both of us don't spend as much time as before. Now everyone
"Sofia! I'm so sorry!" Eleanor rush out from the lecture hall "I have this project due this week and we still left somethings undone but I'll meet you later in the library. I'm so sorry!" placing two hands together while lowering her head.
"It's fine, I'll wait for you." I replied, patting her back reassuring her that this isn't a big deal for her to be lowering her head "Whipped coffee?"
Eleanor eyes sparks as soon as she heard those two words "Yes please! Oh you know me so well!" Her eyes are then landed on Hugo who is standing near the emergency exit door. "Is Daxton unavailable today again?"
"Well it is exam month, I don't blame him besides even I don't have the time to meet up with him these past two weeks." I said letting out a sigh.
The whole school is already in the red zone which the school refers as the months before winter break. None of us could afford to waste our time outside relaxing when the school is now in the red zone and because of this even love have to wait.
"True, even I don't have the time to hang out with you guys." Eleanor let out an annoyed face "I better go back inside, I'll see you later."
I said my goodbyes then head towards where Hugo was. The atmosphere between us was silent, it felt like we have been walking for more than five minutes but when I took a look at the time, it has not even been 3 minutes. I was not comfortable with us being like this, I hate this distant feeling.
"So who's that girl who wore a light pink dress with their hair in two pigtails." I asked, only do I realize just because of my ridiculous thoughts, I decided to ask something stupid, something unnecessary.
Just great.
Hugo turn his attention on to me and with him not answering my question really makes me feel dumb. He must probably think I'm a busybody right now if not just some idiot who asked a weird question.
With me feeling embarrassed and dumb at the same time, Hugo let out a snigger which I now confirmed that he thinks I'm a ridiculous friend. "Are you curious of her?" this time, for the first time in our distant friendship during this semester, Hugo finally look at me with a smile on his face.
Seeing that smile again makes me very happy, I could not help it but smile back.
"Why are you smiling?" he knock my head lightly with his knuckle "Are you really that excited to know about Alia?" his hand slowly reach out to my head, placing it on top as if he is holding a basketball "If you're not gonna answer but to smile like a dork, I'm gonna leave you here."
I could feel my whole body burning up, even my heart is racing faster. What is this? Am I denying something?
