I have to admit I wasn't ready to fight the kanima. Any normal day I would have easily killed the kanima preventing it from hurting anyone else, but I was distracted from the lacrosse game and then seeing Derek and Stiles in the pool. There was a small tug in my heart when I saw them, and it reminded me of what I lost, which is why I probably chose to fall into the pool to rescue them, but that might have been a mistake. It was just lucky that I showed the Kanima its reflection before it could kill either of us.
Anyway, I took the day after the fight to ask Derek if he had bitten anyone and if the bite didn't take, but he told me not to worry about the kanima. Derek told me his pack could handle it before disappearing into the night. To say I felt betrayed, and a little pushed aside even though I had saved that moody wolf's ass last night was an understatement. It only made it worse when I saw Issac had returned to school. I knew he was sent here to back up Erica on something, but I didn't know what. My confusion was only ramped up when Stiles and Scott acted weird in Chemistry, and it only made it worse when Stiles, Lydia, and Jackson cornered me during lunch.
"Derek thinks Lydia is the kanima," Stiles said. I looked up at them from the newest kanima book I found in my library, this one about their masters.
"She's definitely not one since she is a ban..." I trail off, realizing I shouldn't say what I finally was able to detect under all the perfume she wore, so I cover it up, "Anyway, just trust me, she isn't the kanima."
"Well, that's great to know, but Derek is not going to believe that," Stiles says, pointing out the obvious.
"I know that, but Lydia and I already have a study date planned tonight, and he won't be able to break into my house with the wards I have surrounding it," I say, taking a bite of my apple as I go back to reading the book.
"You sure about that?" Jackson says.
"Look, if you guys are so worried about Lydia, you can join our study group, but truly I can protect her on my own. I'm not weak." I say, but the trio just tells me that they would be joining me for the study group. Thus, after gym, I guided Lydia into my car as Allison joined Stiles, and Jackson got in his own car before driving slowly out of the parking lot, making sure the two other drivers could follow me to my home.
"You know we could have just stayed in the library like you and I had planned to do before you gone and included three other people in our study group," Lydia said as she walked up the steps to my house.
"Four people, Scott should be joining us." Stiles corrected.
"Four people still doesn't explain the change of scenery," Lydia says.
"Figured with a bigger group, we can use drinks," I say, unlocking my door and walking in. I set my bag on the table and turn to see Stiles locking my door like a manic. I smile at his antics to keep the big bad wolves out, but honestly, locks would do nothing against an Alpha or any old werewolf. Stiles tried to come up with a believable lie, but lucky for him Jackson saved him.
"Lydia, follow me. I need to talk to you for a minute." He says before walking up to my stairs.
"Seriously?" She grumbles but reluctantly follows, "What is going on with everyone?" I watched them go, and I knew nothing was embarrassing in my room or the two guest rooms I didn't know what to do with, so I just let them be up there. Gesturing to Lydia and Stiles, to follow me into the kitchen/dining room area, I walk in there and slide onto one of the stools, and pulled out study material.
"You seriously thinking about studying when we have four raging werewolves trying to kill Lydia?" Stiles said in disbelief.
"No, but Lydia is freaking out over you being paranoid so I am making it look like we are actually here to study. Besides, the wolves can't get in here without my permission. The wards won't allow it so stop being so freaked out that Derek will rip out your throat with his teeth." I say as I take out the review sheet.
