I wasn't mad that I was arrested and had to spend a whole night at the Sheriff station. Believe me, I have stayed in worse situation but I was mad that I wasn't able to be there for Atlantia. Before I get ahead of myself, I need to explain how I got out of jail. The Sheriff had the charges dropped so he could have us help him save his son who had escaped for Eichen house two nights before.
"The specialist I saw in LA told me the thing that every doctor says when he's trying to avoid a lawsuit, 'We can't say for sure'. And then I spoke with Melissa." Stilinski had brought us into his office where he directs Chris and I's attention to the brain scans that laid on his desk, "These are brain scans--my wife's, and Stiles'. I knew they were similar, but those are the same. Exactly the same."
"And I'm guessing this isn't possible?" I conclude looking at him.
"Not even remotely." Stilinski confirms.
"So the trickster is still playing tricks." Chris says pointing our the obvious.
"But why this this trick?" I say looking at Stilinski.
"When I was in the Army, an officer told me, 'If you want to defeat your enemy, you don't take away their courage, you take away their hope'" Stilinski quotes.
"You don't look like a man who gives up hope easily." Chris says
"But Stiles might." Stilinski points out. He was right. You can't trust a young teenager, barely the legal driving age to be able to hold onto hope through terrifying experiences like this one, "If this thing inside him...if it's using his mother's disease as some sort of psychologically trick. then this isn't just a fight for his body. It's also a fight for his mind. Right?"
"You know, he's left people severely injured." Chris says slowly.
"And others severely dead." I add.
"That's why I need the two of you." Stilinski insists, "I need people who are experienced in this kind of thing. I need you to help me stop him.
"And by stop him, you mean trap him." Chris says looking for clarification. Stilinski nods which makes me sigh.
"Then we need Atlantia." I tell him. Stilinski nods and he beckons for us to follow him. He drives us to her house and the moment I stepped out of the car, I knew something was wrong. Chris could instantly tell that I was on edge with one look at me.
"Derek, what's going on?" Chris asks looking at me as his hand goes to the gun on his belt. I don't answer him. I sprint to Atlantia's door and I push open her door. The mess that was inside the house I was not expecting. There was broken glass everywhere, broken pieces of wood from her table. It was a mess and laying in the center of the mess in the kitchen was Atlantia who looked like she was crying for days.
I don't think. I just gather her up in my arms and instantly she melted into my arms. Vaguely, I could feel the presence of Stilinski and Chris behind me but I knew they were in shock at what had happened here.
"Atlantia, what happened?" I grit out. My wolf wanted to come out when he saw our mate this broken.
"I didn't do the spell right and the Nogistune got into my head." She says, her words were muffled as her head was tucked into my shirt but Chris still heard her.
"What spell?" Chris asks. The concern was evident in his voice as he could see how bad she felt.
"Deaton wanted me to put a cage around the Nogitsune to keep him locked in Stiles until you could get the cure." Atlantia explains, "The spell he wanted me to do required that Stiles be awake to finish it so I had to wait for Stiles to reawake after I did ninety percent of the spell."
