I opened the front door and walked carefully up the stairs. My whole body was in pain. Bruises covered my arms and legs, red scratches and cuts all over my body.

I had been bullied today at school, but that wasn't new. What was new, was that today, they had physically hurt me. I was used to the name-calling and verbal abuse but no one has ever hit me.

Until today.

I didn't fight back though, I couldn't, and no one defended me.

I got to my room and looked into the mirror, remembering the events that had occurred this afternoon.

My skin was extremely pale from how weak I was, and my whole body felt numb. I grabbed my bottle of foundation and a cosmetic sponge, applying some carefully to the visible bruises.

The door opened up behind me and I turned around to see the person I really didn't want to see right now.

Shawn.

He was my best friend and I told him everything, except that I was bullied.

Shawn had a quick temper, and was always looking out for me. I couldn't imagine what he would do if he ever found out about what happens while I'm at school.

I quickly put the makeup away, brought my hair to the front, and pulled down my sleeves, in an attempt to cover the bruises and cuts on my neck and arms.

"Hey, (y/n), what's up?" Shawn asked, jumping onto my bed.

"Uh, nothing, you?" I asked while playing with objects on my vanity.

"Nothing much, is, uh, is everything okay?" He asked me worriedly.

"Yeah, yeah, everything's fine," I shook my head, running my hands along my thighs.

He got up and moved closer to me, "I know you're lying. You're my best friend, its not that hard to see," he raised an eyebrow.

I dropped the makeup brush I was holding, on to the ground and bent down to pick it up. When I got back up into my seat, my hair moved back, revealing a prominent purple bruise on my shoulder.

"Um, what's that?" He asked pointing to my shoulder.

My heart stopped and I moved my hair to cover it.

"Oh, nothing," I said with a shaky voice.

He pushed my hair aside, "No, you're lying. Again. What the hell is that?" He asked again through gritted teeth

I turned to face him, "Shawn, please its n-"

"Tell me who did this!?" He shouted getting up.

His face turned bright red, veins popping out all over his arms and neck, fists clenched, just what I was trying to avoid.

I stayed silent, hoping he would calm down.

"You know what? If you're not going to tell me, then I'm gonna find out by myself. They're gonna regret it."

I sighed as he stormed out my room and out of my house.

* * *

Just as I got into bed that night, my phone rang. I picked it up to see a name I was dreading.

"H-Hello?"

"Hey, can I come over, I really need to talk to you," Shawn said on the other end of the line.

"Um yeah, sure."

A few minutes passed by and I heard a knock on my door.

"Its open," I called out.

Shawn came upstairs and opened the door to my bedroom, "Hey," he said softly, hands shoved into the front pockets of his black skinny jeans.

I looked up and gave him a weak smile while he walked over to the bed and laid down next to me, looking up at the ceiling.

"I beat them up."

I snapped out of my thoughts to listen to Shawn, "What?" I asked him.

"The guys who hurt you. I beat them up. I couldn't let them get away with it," Shawn replied nonchalantly.

Shawn was so caring and protective and I loved him for that. He was always watching out for me and he was a great best friend. But a small part of me knew he shouldn't have beaten them up.

"You did that for me?" I asked in astonishment.

"Of course," he nodded, now sitting up like me, "I would do anything for you. I love you."

"I love you too," I replied, hugging him.

We pulled away and he stared into my eyes in silence. Before I knew it, he was leaning in, pressing his lips onto mine.

In that moment, I realized that I did like Shawn, as more than a friend.
His sweet and caring personality made him stand out from all the other guys I knew.

He pulled away and looked into my eyes again. I wanted to know if he had real feelings for me too.

"Why did you do that Shawn?" I whispered.

He turned away, avoiding eye contact with me, "Oh, I-I don't know. I'm sorry I-"

"Hey," I stopped him, lightly turning his cheek to face me, "I never said I didn't like it."

He smiled and put his hands lightly on my cheeks and kissed me again.
