Mistakes were made

The only thing Rex wanted was a normal day. For him, that was nearly impossible. Every day he was being tormented by his so called brothers, some of which he'd prefer to call demons.

Of course, said 'demons' are all his best friends, unfortunately. The only exception was Cody. He was more sane than Jesse, Fives, and Hardcase were. By a long shot.

Although from time to time he liked to mess with him. So Cody could be an annoyance, while everyone else were demonic entities spawned by force knows who.

They had just gotten back from an exhausting campaign. Rex had immediately collapsed into his bunk, deciding to wait for a while before finishing all of his paperwork.

Sometimes being a Captain sucked. Well, it sucked all the time, but he's been doing it for so long it was just another blur of his very long day.

He set his helmet down next to him, stripping himself of his upper chest armor before collapsing back into the pillow.

Force, he was sore.

During the said mission, he had nearly gotten blown up twice and was slammed into a tree. Not to mention a droid caught him in the head when the impact with said tree caused his helmet to fly off.

He had one big headache.

And as soon as the door slid open, he knew it was about to get worse.

"You in here, Captain?" Jesse asked. His gaze flickered over to the motionless figure on the bed and he grinned, striding over.

Rex knew who it was immediately. He groaned and turned himself over. "Go away, Jesse.."

"No can do," Jesse replied. "Hardcase and Fives are making a mess of the mess hall."

"Whatever.."

Jesse shoved at him. "With all due respect, Rex. You really need to get up and do something with your life."

"We just got back from an exhausting mission, Jesse," Rex replied, keeping his eyes closed. "Let a man get his rest, will ya?"

Surprisingly, the younger clone relented. "Fine. I'll tell Fives and Hardcase not to bother you."

He stood up. Rex noticed the eerie silence that followed for about 5 minutes before footsteps exited the barracks. He decided not to question it until later.

It only took about 2 hours before Fives came barging in. Thankfully, he was already awake and sitting up.

"Rex!"

Rubbing a hand over his bruised face, he sighed. "What now?"

"Uh well, slight problem. Hardcase may or may not have—"

Just as he was about to finish his sentence, something akin to a popping noise radiated from the hallway. There were a string of curses, then something hitting the floor.

Rex tore himself up from his bed and ran out into the hall with Fives trailing behind him. He froze.

"You got to be kidding me.."

Jesse and Hardcase were staring at him with wide eyes. There was paint spilled over the floor, with a few fire crackers laying on the ground.

Gosh, he was going to kill them all.

He inhaled, and he could practically feel Fives tense behind him.

"You're all in trouble...!"

Rex turned, grabbing Fives by the collar of his blacks, and pushed the surprised trooper forward. "You three, clean this mess up. No 79s for a month, and fresher duty for a week."

They all stood and gaped at him.

"B-But sir.." Hardcase deflated. "79s is our life! We can't live without it!"

"Correction," Jesse said. "You can't live without it. Fresher duty on the other hand, Rex please."

"Why am I involved in this?" Fives pouted.

Rex huffed. "Because I know you had something to do with this mess. You're the official idiot mascot of the 501st, Fives."

The ARC looked absolutely baffled.

"Hey!"

Jesse and Hardcase both turned and started laughing at him.

"You got what you deserved! Hey, you should dress up as a fish!"

Fives turned. "Rex, help me!"

"You got yourself into this mess," He said as he turned around. "Get yourself out."

His brother practically clung to him. "You have to help me. You wouldn't leave me here to suffer, would you? I'm an innocent young soul! This isn't how I want to live! What is this tyranny?"

"It's called consequences for your actions," Rex grinned and let him fall to the floor. "Stop being so dramatic. You'll be fine."

As the barrack doors slid closed behind him, he faintly heard Fives shout, "No, I won't."

He silently snickered to himself, reaching down to pick up his helmet. Although something was written on a note on the side.

"Look in your helmet! :) ❤️"

Rex turned his helmet over, barely managing to get a look inside before something popped loudly. White frosting sprayed all over his face.

Almost immediately, he dropped the helmet.

Oh he knew who this was.

With a fresh stream of anger, he wiped and licked some of the frosting from his face. He had to admit it was delicious, though.

He stormed right back into the hall, where all 3 of his brothers were staring at him. Fives was snickering, and Jesse looked like he was about to explode.

"Oh no," Fives wheezed. "You're in trouble, Jess."

"Captain, I can explain!" He grabbed Jesse by the shirt and dragged him toward a nearby storage closet. He opened it, throwing the panicked trooper inside.

"No! No, wait!"

He slammed it shut, and locked it.

"Rex! Fives, Hardcase, help me!"

"Good luck in there, pal."

He walked away, with Fives and Hardcase both rolling on the ground with laughter as Jesse pounded on the door.

"I don't want to die in here! It's dark and small and I have no food!"

Rex smiled to himself. At least Jesse couldn't bother him anymore.

"You two," He yanked Fives and Hardcase up to their feet despite the fact that they were still laughing. "Back to work."

They obeyed, and as Rex walked back into the barracks, he could hear the laughing grow even louder.

Mission accomplished.
