"We had a good run, didn't we?"

Ahsoka smiled. It was a sad smile and Rex could see how close she was to tears.

It was much harder to comfort her now. He was old and dying. Breathing took too much of his effort. But they had made it worth it.

"Yeah," She croaked. Her hold on his scarred and wrinkled hand tightened. "Yeah, Rexter. We sure did."

He smiled at her. His vod'ika had grown up so much. As much as they hated to admit it, she was always going to outlive him. But she was gonna go on and live the life that she's deserved but never got a chance to live for so long.

"I don't want you to go."

His trembling hand reached up and stroked her cheek. "I know."

Rex didn't want her to be alone. There would be no one around to help deal with her grief. No one else from the old days to reminisce with.

Her lips visibly began to tremble. The weaker he got, he noticed, the more upset she became. She pulled him close to her and ran a hand over his now-bald scalp.

Rex let out a wheezing cough. The air he inhaled wasn't enough to make up for that lost. And thus his chest was heaving with strained breaths as his body continued to fail him.

Their heads were pressed firmly together, tears falling down Ahsoka's cheeks.

"I miss you."

"I'm right here."

She muffled a sob against his head, as if realizing for the first time that she was truly losing the last connection and living link to her past.

His breaths grew shaky and shallow, but regardless of how weak he felt, he pressed a firm kiss against her forehead, in which she only pulled him closer.

"I don't want to live this life without you, ori'vod. You made it less lonely."

"It's alright," He whispered hoarsely with his fading strength. "I'll still be with you."

"Being invisible doesn't count," Ahsoka murmured.

Rex smiled, but it faded when he broke off into another fit. His eyes rolled, but he forced himself awake with fluttering eyelids.

"I love you, ner vod'ika," He whispered, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.

She grasped at him with a desperation he hadn't seen until now. The realization of permanently losing him was crashing down on her in more waves than she could handle.

Rex wanted so badly to stay. To be able to hold and comfort her and tell her it was okay.

"Rex. Rex, please don't leave me here. Please, I need you."

He gasped. "it's okay, ad'ika."

She cradled him close as he began to lose feeling of his own body. He cupped her cheek, lips twitching up into a soft smile.

"I love you too," She choked out.

He was basically in her arms at this point more than he was on the bed. But he didn't mind. He leaned into her embrace, his thumb stroking soothing circles around the palm of her hand until he couldn't feel anything anymore.

She pressed her forehead further against his own as his body slowly slid limp in her arms.

Ahsoka cradled him, gently kissing his forehead and holding him close, sobs wracking her body.

She was alone. There was no one else who truly understood what she had been through. Rex was the only person left that understood and loved her.

Now he was gone too.

Sorry ;D
