*2 weeks later*
Being in KZN was really a much needed break, I'm at peace here, the people are more kinder, the streets are more welcoming, I actually wouldn't mind permanently moving here.A week ago MA invited Nathi and I for lunch, little did I know that she had not told him about the reason we are called, we went for lunch at a hotel and that's where she broke the news to him, he was upset and thought the idea was very absurd, ma tried to make him realise how much this could save both his brother and the family as a whole. He stombed out on us and didn't come home for 3 days.
He finally came back over the weekend and told us that he is willing to help, as delighted as I am that he agreed, I also don't understand how any of this is going to work, am I supposed to have romantic intercourse with my husband's brother? Will I even be able to allow myself to be seen naked by another man? I mean Muzi always says how unattractive my flappy skin is.
Talking about Muzi, he has been checking up on me much often lately, he calls sometimes for a few minutes just to check on how I'm doing, I guess he has taken a break from his colored girlfriend.
Today I thought it would be a good idea to give Sis Mandisa a day off, so I cleaned the house, went out to the nearest retail store which is Spar to buy a few things that I will need to cook dinner, I walked to Spar since everyone around here says it's close but coming back was a mission I decided to take an Uber.
I'm in the kitchen cooking and I think about how things are between Muzi and I, there's so much hope, I'm so happy, I start humming my favourite Jill Scott song "Golden", I have a beautiful singing voice, but I'm not a very confident singer.
Andiswa gets back from school and she's super excited to find me cooking so she joins me, having her around sort of gives me a feel of how it'll be like one day when I finally have my own kids. We finish cooking and set the table. On the menu today is creamy spinach, potato salad, green salad, chakalaka, creamy pasta and grilled lamp chops.
As we lay the table Nkosi walks in, I tense up a bit, "ladies, it smells divine in here" he greets taking a peek of what's inside the salad bowls, "ey waze wakhipha unyawo namuhla maGumede(you outdid yourself today)" I smile nervously.
"ndiswa go and put this in my room for me and look for my Grey slippers" Andiswa sulks and walks off. "Buka maGumede(listen magumede), if we want this to work smoothly then we need to get rid of this tension and awkwardness to avoid people suspecting anything" I nod nervously.
He sighs, "look be ready tomorrow at 14h00, lets go out for lunch and get to know each other, as brother in law and sister in law, just to get rid of the tension" I nodd again.
"bhuti i can't find any grey slippers" he chuckles, "oh I must've left them at my place" Andiswa gets upset when she notices that this was just his way of getting her out of the room for sometime.
Ma comes down and we enjoy dinner without uBab'Mabaso, he is in joburg for business. After dinner we tidy up but Nathi offers to do the dishes so I head to bed, ndiswa opts to come and sit with me, we watched a movie on Netflix and she ended up falling asleep in my bed, I let her be, I guess this is how it'll feel like being someone's mother.
Did I mention how Nathi couldn't stop complementing my cooking? I'm so glad that at least one mabaso man notices my efforts, I wish that man was my husband, but nope he won't notice even if I wore a dress exposing my privates.
I doze off while hoping that maybe Muzi would call me but to no luck. The next morning ma came into the room very upset at Andiswa "Andiswa vuka you're late for school, I told you to let Aya rest" Andiswa walks out sulking
"don't let this one have her way with you" she says, I chuckle "it was unintentional, we were watching a movie and she passed out"
"that's because it was way past her bed time, please Aya no movies or anything for her on a school night" I nodd before she storms out, I guess she's not a morning person, very grumpy.I slept for 2 more hours, woke up at 10,found sis mandisa in the kitchen cleaning up. "morning sisi" she smiles and greets back, I grab a bowl and prepare some plain yogurt and musli before heading back to my room. I go through my phone as I eat and I notice a text from an unsaved number "don't forget, lunch today at 14h00, I'll pick you up at 13h30ish" oh shoot! I totally forgot about my lunch with Nathi.
I quickly finish eating before taking a shower, a long shower actually, I then pick out something to wear, I don't need to look all fancy right? It's just lunch with my brother inlaw. I slip into a pair of ripped navy blue skinny Jean, a white airforce, a baggy white blouse and i straigthen my hair, it's been a while since I removed this doek. I look good ey.
I grab my handbag and head townstairs to find him sitting in front of the TV screen watching the news, "Hi..." I say feeling all shy for keeping him waiting. He smiles "finally" he stands up and fixes himself, "after you.." he signals that we can go, I walk out to his white Porsche Suv, the interior of this car is to die for, it has baige seats and very spacious. I buckle up my seat belt and we are ready to drive off.
He places his smooth jazz music and the drive is just awkward and silent..
We get to our destination after an hour and it's a nice restaurant with a beachfront, he opens my chair for me and the waiter arrives with menus "would you like anything to drink while you decide on what you'll eat?" Nathi asks, "Uhm, orange juice" he shifts his focus to the waiter "2 glasses of orange juice"Well lunch went great, I haven't had a good laugh, good food with great company in a really long time...
