I woke up late again today, this time everyone had already left, I wonder what's going on with my sleeping patterns. I got called for a job interview so I need to go back to joburg today, the interview is tomorrow.
I informed ma about this and she said she'd speak to Muzi about getting me a flight ticket back home. I'm packing my bags right now because she said she'd send someone to drive me to the airport once the ticket has been purchased.
It's 3pm now and Muzi's phone is off. I'm panicking because honestly I need this job. I call uMa, she's also busy at the moment so I guess it's up to me to figure out how I'll get back to joburg. I go downstairs with my luggage. I guess I'll get an Uber from here to either the airport or the bus station, whichever that has tickets available.
"hey, you ready?" Nathi walks in without paying any attention to me, he's busy with something on his phone. I guess they finally bought my ticket, he's the one driving me to the airport.
"yeah" I say while dragging my luggage bag and following after him. He opens the boot and there's a luggage back there as well. I guess he's going somewhere. I sit in the back seat. He sits on the driver's seat and continues on his phone. "nathi?" I call out for him "Hmmm" still busy on his phone. "aren't you going to start the car?" he chuckles a bit. "I'm not your Uber driver Ayanda, this car won't move until you're seated here with me" argh men can be so petty sometimes.
I get out and go and sit in the front seat. He smiles before putting his phone away and driving off. We drive in complete silence, with just lira playing in the background.
We've been driving for over an hour now and we are certainly not headed to the airport. "nathi siyakuphi?" he shifts from looking at the road and looks at me briefly then smiles "joburg". I'm stupid ass didn't actually figure out that this guy is driving me back home.
"I thought you're taking me to the airport" his face changes, I cannot figure out whether he is upset or disgusted "your dearest husband decided not to get the plane ticket and went MAI on us so someone had to step in"
I just face the other direction trying to hard to hold in my tears, I'm such a Cryer lately, I don't even understand why I'm crying right now because we all know Muzi doesn't care. He notices that I'm crying and starts to panic "maQwabe... Ngiyaxolisa, bengingaqondile ukukphatha Kabi" he tries to hold my hand and I move it away.
He drives to the side of the highway, gets out of the car and comes to my side. He opens the door and without saying anything he pulls me into his arms, I cry, not even because of what Muzi did but mainly what he did to me last night, he left me hanging and now continues like nothing happened.
I cry for sometime, he then wipes my tears and gives me a forehead kiss "Ngiyaxolisa yezwa?" I nodd like a child, what the heck? What's going on with me...
He moves back to the driver's seat the we continue with our ride, we stop at the next garage and get some food and snacks, while we continue with the journey I'm just happily digging into my sandwich, he keeps stealing glances at me and now I'm getting a bit uncomfortable. "uyayithanda ne(you like it don't you?)" he asks
I stop eating because I'm trying to register what he just said "I mean the sandwich" he adds, I just instantly lose my appetite "Hawu, did I say anything wrong?" he asks, "are you implying that because I'm fat, I like every single thing that goes into my mouth?!" he looks at me confused as if he didn't just call me fat.
"you're blowing things out of proportion MaQwabe, all I asked was if you're enjoying the food or not" men and trying to sugarcoat things "I know what you said nathi, I know what you're implying, because I'm fat I'm supposed to be enjoying everything that goes into my mouth right?"
"weMaQwabe, you're overreacting and I won't entertain this" that's all he says, no apology or anything like that. He just dismissed me, and there we go again, I'm crying. "no! Not the tears again, this time angikwenzanga lutho nje" this isn't even making things any better I continue crying.
He isn't even phased. He continues driving, I finally stop crying, I finish my food then doze off for a nap. I'm woken up by someone slightly shaking me, i get up to notice we are on our last stop before joburg, its 1am. We get out of the car. "what would you like to eat? Wimpy? Spur?" he asks. "wimpy, a milkshake would do", he smiles "a milkshake at this time of the night?" he chuckles playfully. I just join in because I don't even have it in me to fight him.
We walk in, find a table and order, I order a burger, fries and a large milkshake, guess what this man orders? A cup of coffee... I swear nathi uses every chance he gets to make me feel like I eat too much. "why aren't you ordering something?" I ask, a bit annoyed.
"i don't feel like eating" he says trying to read my mood. "okay."
"Cha ngempela yini inginga MaQwabe?" he asks, "you making me feel like I eat too much, you haven't eaten anything since our trip started how do you think that makes me feel?"He shifts a bit to sit up. "so that's why your mood has been all over? Well I never eat on any long distance trips because I have a condition, I vomit and get nauseated when I eat during long distance trips, it has nothing to do with you being fat as you say, trust me some men actually appreciate women with meat on all the right places" he says the last part with a naughty smerk on his face.
I finish eating then the drive continues. We finally get to my house, Hubby isn't home as usual, I'm not even bothered. "I'll be at a close by hotel, if you need anything don't hesitate to call me, Goodluck for your interview, don't oversleep" he gives me a hug then walks out. I go upstairs, take a shower then set an alarm for 6h30.
*the next morning*
I'm woken up by my phone ringing "hello..." I answer, "don't tell me you're still asleep at this time, you'll be late for your interview maqwabe" it's nathi, I jump out of bed "oh no no I'm up, he chuckles" I'm kidding it's 6h00 just wanted to make sure that you don't oversleep" I smile, he's so kind. "thank you, I might as well go for my jog" we chat for sometime before cutting the call.
I go for my morning jog. Then get back, take a shower and Pick an outfit, I'm dressed in a black pencil skirt, a white blouse, black block heel sandals and I tied my hair neatly. I'm ready to go.
I arrived just on time and I can safely say that the interview went quite well. I'm hopeful...
