I walk into school the day after the turf war to hear the usual gossiping of the other students. Well, I thought it was the same the usual spreading of rumors relating to the strength of my quirk until I reach my first class.
Sitting down in my seat, I notice a group clustered around one student's desk. That's when I realized what the gossip was actually about.
"Did you hear the superhero X-Static died a week ago?" One student says.
"Of course I have, it's all over the news!" Another responds.
"You really shouldn't call them superheroes. No good vigilantes is what they are." A third student complains.
'X-Static, why does that name sound familiar. I swear I've heard it somewhere before.'
"Who do you think is next?" Another student joined the crowd, continuing the morbid conversation.
"My bet is on Hurricane." One of the other students says cockily.
I decided it's best to ignore the conversation from there.
The bell rings for class to begin, but I can't get my mind off the conversation.
'Why do I recognize that name?'Morning classes end and I begin to walk to lunch. I don't get far though as I notice a bit of paper flouting down to the floor in front of me.
Leaning down to pick it up, I examine the scrap of what was likely a full sheet very recently. The edges looked burnt and only a single word was left untouched.
"X-Static" the paper read.
'That name again.'
Just as I'm about to tuck the paper into my bag, I see Remi turn the corner into another hall, I hadn't even realized she was there until I heard sobbing.
'Did she burn the paper, and why is she crying?'
I run after the girl, reaching her just as she enters the Library.
"Remi, are you alright?" I ask.
She spins around on her heel.
"Huh?" She asks in surprise.
"I heard you crying from the other end of the hall, what happened?"
"It's nothing, just hormones." She lies.
"Remi, I found this." I show her the paper scrap, "What happened?"
