"My god! That's cold!" John yells as Seraphina presses the side of a glass of water against the back of his neck.
Seraphina and I both giggle, and I thank her as she hands me a glass of water. I quickly down mine, but Seraphina drinks half of John's before giving it to him.
"But you already drank most of it." John complains.
"It's better than nothing." I tell him, and Seraphina laughs at John again.
"Fine, mom." John grumbles, but drinks the water as I roll my eyes.
"So, what happened out there." Seraphina finally asks.
"Ah, well it's exactly what you'd expect, right? The school ace leaves and everyone targets her weak friend." John lies, but I stay quiet.
"No, that's not what I'm talking about." Seraphina says, seeming almost sad, "I've never seen you break down like that before. After two weeks, the first thing you say to me is: don't look at me right now? That's not right."
"You said that?" I ask, concerned, "What happened!?"
"Nothing. I'm fine now, see? I just didn't expect you back so soon, never mind to see me like that as soon as you got here." John lies again.
I sigh, knowing that Seraphina and I were gonna talk about this once Elaine got here.
"Anyway, what about you? Where have you been? You weren't online, and-" John tried to say, only to get cut off my Seraphina.
"Don't change the subject." She glared at him.
"What do you mean? I was worried that something had happened to you!" John defended. "You disappeared without saying anything!"
"My parents cut my internet, but I convinced them to let me come back early, so I'm crashing at your place. Now, explain."
"I had enough of the bullying, alright, and I really didn't want you to come back to see me so defeated. But, whatever. You're back now, so everyone can go back to the way it was." John said, only half truthful, but I could tell it was the best I was gonna get in front of Seraphina.
Before either of us could respond to John, Remi reappeared from outside with Elaine in tow.
