The sound of screaming and a flash of light wakes me next. I groan a low, "what is it this time" before I hear John repeat the sentiment.
"What the hell is going on here?" He asks cautiously.
"We found the assailant. Can you believe this guy? He actually had the guts to come back for them." Arlo explains.
I jump to my feet and see Arlo holding a guy to the ground by his throat, inside a barrier, just next to the table.
John comes over to glare directly at the intruder. I follow, but decide to sit on the arm of the couch when I notice a strangely familiar chill in the air. Because the drugs from earlier had made me unreasonably warm, I assume they might still be in my system, and that fainting may still be likely.
"Gonna need you to speak up. Who are you? What do you have to gain from this?" Arlo asks the man below him.
"What did you do to Sera?" John growls.
"You're not getting anything out of me." The intruder manages to say despite the pressure on his wind pipe.
"Look here, you better start talking!" John tells the man, threatening him with the knife Seraphina had stolen from her attacker earlier.
"Hold on, we're missing something here. Someone of this caliber could never lay a hand on Seraphina." Arlo says, "How did you do it? Tell me."
The moment the words leave his mouth, a crash sounds from down the hall.
"Sera!" John yells as he makes a dash for his room.
"Hey, wait up!" Elaine calls as she runs after him.
Arlo stares after them for a minute before turning to the man pinned under him, punching him hard.
"Make sure this guy doesn't try anything." Arlo says to me before running after the others.
I don't have the time to refuse, but decide that's probably a good thing as I don't know if I'd be able to fight. I sigh as I notice my flannel on the floor next to me. I realize just after grabbing it to put it on to combat the cold I'm feeling that it's probably best to tie up the man Arlo knocked out.
"No warmth for me I guess." I mutter as I go to wrap the fabric around the intruder's hands.
Just then Elaine comes running through the room and out the front door. I stand to follow her as soon as I finish restraining the intruder but I don't make it to the door. The cold I feel is replaced quickly by heat as steel is pressed against my neck.
