"What do we do now?" I hear a muffled voice say as the ringing in my ears fades just enough to make out the words.
"If someone really did manage to drug them, we should stay together. Whatever the reason they have for targeting Seraphina is, I have a feeling this isn't the end of it." Another voice says, clearer this time.
As the lightheadedness fades and my muffled senses return to normal, a dull pain settles in. I blink, trying to get my vision to cooperate, and try to sit up.
"She's awake!" The first voice says as Elaine comes into view.
"I passed out again?" I guess, but something feels different from my usual fainting spells.
"Someone injected you and Seraphina with something. I healed you both but you're the first to wake up. It's been a few hours. How are you feeling?" Elaine explains.
"Good, I wasn't sure if you'd get here in time. Everything hurts but I think I'll be okay. Why is it so hot in here?" I grumble as I shake off my flannel jacket.
"What do you mean, it's not that warm?" Arlo asks.
"I mean, John probably doesn't usually have this many people over at the same time. We might be making it a bit warmer than usual. Could that be it?" Elaine offers.
"Maybe, I feel like I'm burning up." I complain.
"I don't sense a fever. It's probably the drugs they injected you with. You should get some rest, they'll be out of your system by the morning." Elaine says.
"You take the couch, you need it more than we do. Elaine and I will probably sleep at the table. It won't be comfortable, but it's something." Arlo says as he walks over to the thermostat to lower the room temperature a few degrees.
"Yeah. We'll make sure you and Seraphina are safe. Try to take it easy for a little while." Elaine says.
As the heat cools to something manageable, my eyelids start to feel heavy. I barely manage to mumble "Okay, thank you..." before I'm out again.
