"Ability dampeners?"
"Think about it, they managed to hold their own against three high tiers with only knives and a van. Even if the drug is still in my system, it should have been easier for us to stop them." I explain.
"You're right. That break in was undoubtedly premeditated. Those guys knew exactly where to be and what to do. It's no coincidence that our abilities just happen to fail us either." Arlo agrees.
"How were they able to weaken all of us at once? I almost couldn't heal myself at all." Elaine adds, staring at her hands.
"I don't know, but the same thing happened when they drugged Seraphina. The air was heavier. I thought I was just imagining it, but I knew there was something wrong. I probably would have walked right past the alleyway she was in if I hadn't sensed it." I realize.
"So the same people definitely came back for her. What I don't understand is, they had everything where they wanted, so why suddenly drive off like that?" Arlo asks.
"Uhm... I think they mumbled something to each other before they left, but I couldn't quite catch it..." Elaine mutters.
"It's going to wear off soon, and when that happens, we're done for." John says, "that's what I heard. It seems like they were on some kind of timer."
"Woah! Welcome to the conversation." Arlo grumbles as he glares at John but stops when Elaine and I both give him a look that says 'if you start another fight, I'm ending it.'
"Wear off? You know, now that I think about it... Shortly after they were gone, my healing started to come back! But I thought it was just because whatever was affecting us had left too." The blue haired girl realizes.
"It's possible they can only maintain the ability dampening effect for a limited amount of time. That's why they rushed out. Regardless, at this point it's pretty clear what happened to you and Seraphina. Her strength was reduced, and that's how they were able to get to her. You managed to help her escape, but they traced you two back here. Whatever they injected her with rendered her unconscious." Arlo tells me.
"If that's the case, why isn't Hela also still out cold?" Elaine asks.
