    "Get your hands off me!"
Turning, I see a van blocking an alleyway. I almost overlook it, assuming someone is unloading stock for a local business. Then I notice that the back door is facing me, and the van is still running while tilted at an odd angle to block the whole alley. I glance around for another origin for the scream, but i don't find anything more suspicious. Then I hear fighting from the other side of the vehicle.
I run over, slipping through a small gap between the van and a building, and find three people laying on the ground. Seraphina is standing near them, holding her hand over a spot on her neck that appears to be bleeding. I don't even have to use my ability to feel my adrenaline spike.
"What happened?" I ask, running to her.
"They injected me with something. I can't rewind it!" She says shakily. She looks like she's about to pass out.
I lean down to pick up a needle on the floor near her, but I don't get the chance to grab it.
"Watch out!" Seraphina yells only a moment before someone slams into me. I fall to the ground, barely registering that the person who hit me had been at the library, before he grabs my shirt collar.
Seraphina runs for me but she's slower than usual. She manages only a few steps before I feel something stab into my neck.
"I suggest you come with us quietly, or we'll have no choice but to harm you." My attacker says, but I barely hear the words.
I instinctually drop my body temperature, unintentionally doing the same to the area around me. My mind slows, but hopefully so does my blood flow. The syringe drops for the hand of the person who had been tailing me as he realizes his shoes have frozen to the ground. I grab his arm, and ice starts to creep up his sleeve. He lets go, and I barely manage to stay on my feet.
I point to the street. Thankfully Seraphina understands because I know I couldn't form words if I tried. She squeezes into the space with me right on her tail. I can hear my ice cracking behind me as my ability weakens, but we make it into the street. I stop for a second to catch my breath, assuming no one would follow us after leaving the ally, but it doesn't stop one of seraphina's attackers from running at her with a knife.
