Finally, I burst through the door to see a small black haired boy crumbled on the ground along with nearly a third of the students of New Boston high. I marched over to him, probably ready to pay back all the pain he had just inflicted, but then I heard him. He was crying.
I could hear sirens in the distance, Adrion or a teacher must have called the authorities, but I couldn't think about that right now. I walked up to John, his uniform stained with blood, but tears slowly washed out the red color from the edges of his sleeves. The sight almost scared me. It had been such a regular occurrence before, but since John had gotten his ability, I hadn't seen him cry once.
"Are you against me too?" He asked in a small voice, filled with fear.
I stopped, surprised. He wasn't crying because he had just realized what he had done, not entirely anyway. He thought the whole world hated him, and he wanted someone to confirm his fears.
"No, of course you are." He whispered to himself, standing up from his place on the ground. I didn't know if he was going to run, or continue his rampage, but I had to help him make the right decision. Well, the best one given the circumstances.
"John," I spoke, my voice cracking as I prepared to say the biggest lie of my life, "You're my friend, regardless of what happens, you know that right?"
All he did was nod. I could tell he was scared, and not only for himself. We both knew I was going down with him now. I put my hand on his shoulder and pushed softly. He took a step back from it, and I could see anger start to blot out his tears, but I couldn't let it win.
"Go. Cool your head, and think about what led to this. Don't come out until you know you won't hurt anyone else." I whisper before turning around to see a small army of police cars and ambulances pull up to the school.
"But, they'll arrest you." He said, almost asking if I was insane.
"My parents will have me out in a few days. If you try to fight a police officer, they'll have you for months if not longer. Go."
He didn't say anything to that, but I could hear his footsteps recede.
"I can't let you can't hurt anyone else." I whisper to myself as armed men run up to me, but I don't waver.
"Did you do this?" They ask.
"Yes."
