𝔎𝔦𝔡 Blink took your hand, pulling you from the building and back through the streets. You had no idea which direction you were going, and it was awkward to keep up with his long strides as he made his way towards the ship again, tugging you along. But what else could you do? David's 'contact' hadn't worked out, you didn't know why, and he'd surely be on the alert by now. You plan was in tiny pieces on the ground, probably run over a few times by now as well.

You didn't speak; neither did he. When you arrived back at the small dinghy, he scrawled a note and stuck it to the post, slinging you into the boat and taking his own seat by the oars. You were facing his back, watching as his arms moved to row the boat, pushing it backwards across the surface of the water.

You stayed quiet still, with nothing else to do besides look at his stupid muscles flex as he rowed the stupid boat back to the stupid ship. You'd really messed things up now; any chance he'd like you enough to 'keep you' was surely shot. You'd no doubt that the ship would soon be sailing towards the capital... and from there, your situation would quickly go downhill.

The boat pulled up alongside the ship, and Blink stood, rocking the boat slightly as he handed you the rope ladder, jerking his chin up to signal you to climb. You did so, stumbling onto the deck slightly and moving out of the way.

As Blind Diamond swung up onto the deck behind you, exclamations sounded.

"Cap'n," The boy with the cigar, Race, started, looking relieved and worried at the same time. "We've bad news."

The captain ignored him, pushing you lightly towards the boy and the cabin of the ship. "Take her to her room."

Race took your elbow and handed you off to another boy, still looking at Kid Blink. "Sir, you gotta listen,"

"Not now." He frowned, flicking his hand, and the other boy started leading you back to your room. You started going with, seeing no use in fighting, until the words fell out of Race's mouth.

"Yes, now! That new kid Davey's booked it!"

You dug your heels into the deck, spinning around. "What?"

"Booked it, I'm tellin ya." Race waved a hand dramatically. "Jumped right over the side and swam for it. Boy's a fish!"

"Why didn't you go after him?" Blind Diamond frowned again, but this time at Race.

He raised his hands helplessly. "Y'all had the boat."

What kind of sailors were they? Couldn't even swim? You wondered, but it was soon replaced by a degree of happiness. David had gotten away! Or, at least, he'd gotten to the shore, according to Race's account.

But then your spirits fell slightly. Would he be able to get away? Would his contacts even help him, based on earlier?

You had to believe he could, he would. And then he'd come back for you, or send someone, or do something

You didn't realize you were smiling until the pirate captain turned his attention to you and you felt the expression drop from your face.

"Was that your plan?" He said, tilting his head in that familiar curious manner. But the smile that generally accompanied it was still absent. "Distract me while your guard gets away?"

Your cheeks felt hot as Sunny's words from that morning ran through your head. "...captain's thinkin' of you as a distraction too, ain't he?"

Seeing he was waiting with raised eyebrow for a response, you shook your head quickly. "No. Not at all." You should have shut up then, but you continued. "I was supposed to get away; and I would have, too, if you weren't so ridiculously intimidating." You weren't sure why you hadn't, actually, but you might as well pin it on him.

He stepped closer to you, covering the distance in two long strides until he was very, very close. You had to tilt your head back slightly to look up at him, and you crossed your arms over your chest, providing some barrier of sorts. But you didn't move back.

"Do I intimidate you, Princess?" He asked, his voice soft yet challenging.

It was back to Princess, you noted, trying to formulate a response. You settled on a simple "No," Since you couldn't manage anything else.

He smirked, then, and your eyes widened in surprise. "Sounds like I might."

You shook your head quickly, taking a step back to clear the air and your head. "No, you don't, Captain." You said firmly. "Not in the slightest."

And you turned to go, stepping down the ladder hastily towards your room, and he didn't do anything and you didn't either, until you slipped inside and closed the door firmly behind you and then, only then, you let a tear slip slowly down your cheek.
