𝔜𝔬𝔲 took the tray from the kitchen worker at the door, turning and quietly carrying it to the small table where Blink and the king sat, setting it carefully on the wooden tabletop and beginning to transfer the bowls and plates onto the table before returning it to the kitchen maid and exchanging it for the two bottles she held. You brought the bottles back to the table and turned towards the king. "Which will you be having, Your Majesty?" You asked carefully, displaying the options.

"By all means, serve my son first," The king waved a hand, eyes taking your display in calculatingly. You bobbed a quick curtsey and turned to the prince. You'd been expecting this; Blind Diamond had told you he was exceptionally cautious with his eating habits for fear of poisoning. But it was the easiest way.

Which was why you knew he'd choose the drink Blink chose, and which was why you hadn't poisoned either. You knew he'd only eat the food his son ate, as well, and so you'd covered the inside of his cup with the fine, nearly invisible powder of ground aconite root. Potent, solvable, and nearly tasteless. You just had to pour his drink before he noticed anything was amiss.

Keeping your eyes fixed on the tabletop, you turned back from the prince to the king. "And you, Sire?"

"I'll take the same." The king said, watching as his son took a sip of the drink carelessly. You nodded and poured for him, setting the bottle back on the table and stepping back slightly.

"Have you had this before?" The king asked, tone deceptively mild as he turned to you.

"N-no, Your Majesty," You mumbled, shaking your head.

"Try some, I insist. Don't worry- I haven't drunken from this glass."

Blood rushed to your ears, and it was all you could do to think over your pounding heartbeat. He knew, he knew, he knew, spiraled through your mind in a repetitive chant. You saw the prince move as if to stand, but you knew something he didn't, and so you took the glass and took the smallest of sips.

You knew. By the surprise on the king's face, he'd thought he'd known.

"I can't say I'm too fond of it, Your Majesty. I prefer the other-- I believe it's your son's favorite as well." You couldn't help the slight smirk that slipped over your face, but you passed it off as a pretty smile and stepped back from the table again, hoping your mouthiness was covered by the fact that you'd basically just acted as the King's poison tester. When the king, dissatisfied even to be visible, turned his attention to the food, you shot a wink at the prince, who relaxed so much you thought he'd started dissolving.

"C'mere, Princess," Blind Diamond smirked, pushing his chair back from the table slightly.

"Yes, Your Highness," You said, tone deceptively sweet as you raised your eyebrows at him, approaching.

He smirked only more, mouthing a "this was your plan," at you as you blocked him from his father's sight and gesturing for you to have a seat on his lap. You sighed internally-- this part was definitely not your plan, and he was quite simply taking advantage of the situation. But you'd made him worried, you could see, so you sat yourself crossways on his lap and nestled slightly into him. His arm wrapped around you immediately, and you linked your arms over his, laying your head against his shoulder. For only a second, though, before his other hand was coming up and lightly grasping your chin, turning your face to him as he kissed you.

He deepened it quickly, and you felt the air go out of your lungs as you kissed him back, letting him lead for sake of the audience. And maybe it was also kind of hot. He let you go after a long minute, and you could tell you were blushing.

His father was watching dryly, and you felt your cheeks flush further. "Lovely as this may be, why have you requested to dine together now?"

"I wanted you to see her," Blink said with a wry smirk. "See how much better behaved she is now? Surely you've no objection to my intentions,"

This was news to you. The king had had objections? All the more reason to off him came to your mind, and you nearly gasped at yourself. Blink would surely not appreciate that.

"I am merely saying, surely there's someone else you'd rather have... some noble Kozmiran girl, you know, just to keep the bloodline pure? You could even keep the Talin princess, I'm sure."

You wrinkled your nose at the idea, a move which luckily went unnoticed, as Blink was striving to keep his calm, his hand tightening around his glass as he took a long drink, giving himself time to answer.

"No thank you," He said finally, and you nearly rolled your eyes. That's what he came up with? "I like this one."

"We'll see," The king said with a frown, mimicking his son and drinking long and deep from his glass. You held your breath. You knew you wouldn't see results yet, knew it would take two or more hours.

But there was nothing else you could do now but hope and wait.
