𝔜𝔬𝔲𝔯 head shot up, eyes darting to the top of the pit-- and then up some more, up the side of the brown gelding that stood there and again up until you could make out the face of the young woman who had spoken. Blink had gone very still next to you, trying to puzzle out who the speaker was.

"Meredith?" He said after a long minute of looking. His eye widened as she swung down from the horse, coming into better view.

"Tywysog," She replied, and you gasped at the unfamiliar word that carried the familiar lilting quality.

She was an elf.

"Ydych chi'n mynd i ddal i sefyll yno neu ein cael ni allan o'r fan hyn?" Blink asked, scrambling to his feet and carefully helping you up.

"But I want to hear about your girlfriend, and if I get you out you'll just run off on me."

You were sure she'd said that last part in Common specifically for you to hear, from the teasing smile she wore as she sat at the edge of the pit and the wink she shot the boy next to you.

"I won't, I promise." He said, crossing his heart. You almost laughed at the childish gesture, but apparently it meant something, since Meredith popped to her feet again and tossed down a long rope ladder.

"And you just happened to have this?" Blink asked, untangling the ends.

"None of your beeswax." The elf replied, turning to fasten the other end to something secure.

"Okay, Princess, how're we gonna do this? D'you think you can climb up if I hold the ladder steady?" Blind Diamond asked you. You considered it, biting your lip slightly.

"Yeah, I think so." You said, hoping you could. Getting on was a trick, even as Blink pulled the ladder tight, but once you were on you managed to hop / shimmy / climb your way up the ladder and out of the pit. You were out of breath at the end, but managed to move out of the way. Seconds later the prince was standing next to you.

"Show off." You teased lightly, pushing him gently.

He 'winked' at you, steadying you as you winced slightly and adjusted your weight to your good foot.

"A all hi reidio?" Blink asked with a glance at your foot.

"Ydw." Meredith replied, raising her fingers to her mouth and letting out a piercing whistle.

Two more horses trotted into view, fully saddled. You felt a small chill travel down your spine as one came up to you and nosed your arm.

"Help her on." Meredith told Blind Diamond, who was already moving to do so. You wound your fingers around the reins, gripping with your knees to stay balanced.

Blink swung onto his own horse as Meredith turned to you. "Just let your horse have his head, we're close enough it'll be best that way."

"Where are we going?" You asked relaxing slightly.

"The village, of course." The elvish girl shrugged.

You shot the prince a look. "Would that be the same village we're going to?"

He nodded.

"And why didn't you think to mention this was an elvish village?" You said under your breath.

"It was supposed to be a surprise."

"Oh yes, of course. Surprise, there's a pit trap! Very enjoyable." You said, eyebrows raised.

Meredith cackled from up ahead. "Oh, I see why you like this one."

"Cau i fyny."

"Language. There are ladies present." She replied with a laugh.

"I hardly think you count as a lady."

"Awh, I'm hurt."

"So," You interjected, growing more confused as to their relationship with each passing second, "Forgive me if this is rude, but, uh... who are you?"

"What, hasn't he mentioned me yet?" Meredith looked surprised.

You shook your head.

The elf tsked softly, shaking her head. "I'm hurt. You see, this charmer over here is my cousin."
