(DON'T ASK WHY I'M UP SO EARLY JUST ENJOY THE CHAPTER)

𝔜𝔬𝔲 were sure your cheeks were glowing as Mush and Blink rowed the dinghy with you and two rucksacks in it to the shore and as you replayed the last couple moments over and over in your head. You could already tell the prince was going to tease you about this for a very long time...

The boat hit shallow ground and the boys hopped out, towing it onto the sand about halfway. Blind Diamond offered you a hand, and you picked up his pack and handed to him instead, hopping out of the boat with your own slung over your back. Refusing to make eye contact, as you'd been doing since he'd made his pronouncement, you hugged Mush and said goodbye before starting down the beach with your chin held high.

The two boys bid their farewells much more casually before Blind Diamond hurried to catch up with you, his long legs covering the distance quickly as he fell into step beside you.

You didn't say anything, and after a second he cleared his throat. "Once we come to the river up ahead we'll start heading inland. We should reach the town by nightfall, barring any incidents."

"Wonderful," You said, blushing only more now that he hadn't mentioned anything. Now it felt like you had no reason to be so worked up about it.

"Yes. Just like that kiss was."

Oh, never mind, you felt entirely justified now. But you decided to roll with it, do the unexpected. "Well I am a rather good kisser, so it's to be expected." You said airily.

A soft laugh left his mouth. "Oh, you are? I hadn't noticed," He said teasingly.

"Believe me, I am. I've heard it from many sources." You smirked a little at him. Unless two, one being him, counted as many, this was a complete lie. But if it ticked off your prince you'd have no problem begging pardon later.

You were rewarded with the slight tightening of his jaw along with his silence-- he could move so quietly through these woods, even over the dead leaves, and you couldn't help but wonder how-- and your smirk widened ever so slightly. You decided to throw him a bone; "But I'm sure you've heard the same."

"The same what?"

"That you're an excellent kisser." You said unthinkingly, realizing afterwards-- when he smirked at you-- what you'd done. "According to the others," You said quickly, but it didn't stop his laugh.

"Others only? Or are you included in that number, Princess..."

You tossed your head. "I haven't decided."

"Maybe I should help you decide, then." He said, spinning in front of you to walk backwards as you advanced with a dangerous smirk, along with a raised eyebrow. The combination made you bite down hard on your lip as you quickly formulated a plan.

"I can't say I'd be opposed to the idea, Your Highness." You said, batting your eyelashes teasingly.

His eyebrow moved higher as you stopped walking and beckoned him closer with a finger. "You couldn't?"

"According to your rules you're free to initiate now, since I've kissed you already." You said, ignoring his question. Blink moved slightly and then he was right in front of you, and you were looking up at him as his hand found its way to rest lightly on your hip and you felt your resolve weakening alarmingly quickly...

So you ended it then, before you fell prey to his charms, going up on your tiptoes and resting one hand on his shoulder to whisper in his ear, "Although I do believe I've enough source material to make my decision. Please expect your answer in 7-10 business days."

You lightly kissed his cheek as you pulled back, unable to stop yourself from leaving him with entirely nothing before twisting out of his grasp and starting through the forest again with a tiny smile on your lips as he stood, dumbstruck for a minute, before crashing after you with no regards to the leaves and sticks in his way. He sounded, quite frankly, like an elephant, a complete contrast to his earlier manner.

"What was that all about, huh?" He asked, but he was smiling.

"I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about." You said innocently.

"I don't like being teased, Princess." He said lowly, smile replaced by a small smirk. "You should know that."

"And yet there's nothing you can do about it." You said, smirking right back at him, confident you'd won for now.

And you had-- even if the 'now' was shorter than you'd thought.
