"Mush, take Pretty Boy down an' get him some better clothes. You'll be workin' while you're here," He added in an aside to David. "No freeloadin' on my ship. And we wouldn't want your uniform gettin' mussed now would we."

David looked back at Mush reluctantly as the other boy opened the door, jerking his head for him to follow.

You nodded at David. Even if it seemed like a stupid idea to remain alone with the young captain, you had your dagger still. And it might not be a bad thing to suck up to him a little, even if every bone in your body hated it. It would be good practice for court, after all. And goodness knows you needed that.

Reluctantly David left, and you were alone with Blind Diamond.

"So." He said, gaze sweeping you up and down, and suddenly you felt embarrassed that your dress was rumpled and torn and that your hair was a mess. Firmly you told yourself you didn't care, raising your chin imperiously and replying to his comment with a serene nod.

He laughed, for some reason, and stood up, walking around to the other side of the desk with his hands clasped behind his back. "Never thought I'd have a Talin princess aboard my ship." He muttered to himself, shooting another glance at you. You stood as well, at a right angle to the desk and facing him.

"Never thought I'd be aboard a Kozmiran pirate's ship." You spat, forgetting your resolution for a minute.

"Privateer." He corrected, that amused look settling into his face again. "How you likin' it so far, love?"

"Well enough, given the circumstances." You fought to keep your tone pleasant, but were rewarded by a flash of what looked like... disappointment? flicker over the boy's face before he strolled closer to you again. Your back faced the desk as you turned to keep him in front of you.

"Well, that's a pleasure to hear." He said softly.

You eyed him steadily. "Of course, it depends on what you are going to do with us?" You repeated your question from earlier.

"Depends how much I like you." Blind Diamond said, his gaze darting about your face as he stepped closer, one arm on either side of you to rest his hands on the desk. He was so close, body and face mere inches from your own. "I might just hand you over to the king-- it's what I'm supposed to do, after all."

You swallowed slightly, both at his closeness and the mention of the rival monarch. "Or?"

"Haven't decided." He lifted one shoulder in a casual shrug. "Maybe I'll keep you." He added with a little smirk.

Your eyes felt like dinner plates and you ached to slap him. But you didn't want to make things worse, so you did nothing.

He stepped back after a minute with a soft exhale and a subject change. "I'll show you to your rooms; you can wash up, change your clothes."

You were relatively sure that was not how pirates treated their captives; the previous few days had been testament enough to that. Especially not infamous pirates. But... you weren't about to question it, either.

Blind Diamond stepped past you and to the door, opening it and quirking an eyebrow in your direction. You moved to join him slowly, a 'thank you' coming from your mouth unbidden as he held the door for you. He nodded a little and offered you his arm. You reluctantly took it-- 'cool, calm, collected' going through your mind like a mantra-- and that flash of disappointment swept his face again. It confused you more than you'd like to admit.

"This way, Princess." The boy said, leading you in the direction of the hatch that led below decks. You nodded as he gestured for you to descend first, climbing down the ladder and dropping the last couple rungs, your booted feet hitting the deck with a solid thud. Blind Diamond dropped down next to you, taking your arm again and escorting you to a wooden door. The craftmanship was surprisingly nice, for a ship's door. Come to think of it, the entire ship was remarkably well kept and expensive looking.

You brushed the thought from your mind as the pirate opened the door for you with another of the half-mocking bows. "Princess." He swept an arm into the room, and you stepped inside.

The quarters were relatively simple, containing a bed with a deep navy bedspread on it that matched the settee in the center of the room. A long, low wooden table was in front of the settee, with a pale blue runner stretching over the dark wood. A door hung half-open, revealing a very small closet-- still more than you had been expecting.

"Wait here. I'll send someone to help you with clothing." Blind Diamond instructed from where he leaned against the doorframe. When he saw you'd turned to look at him, he flashed a cocky smirk in your direction and shrugged himself upright, beginning to leave. "One more thing, Princess--" he said, pausing and turning back. "It's Kid Blink. Or Blink, or Kid, or Captain; not Blind Diamond on board. Unless you've got some sort of fairy tale built 'round romancin' the pirate captain-- in which case I won't complain." His smirk widened at your attempted protest. "See you soon, Princess." He said in a sing song tone, closing the door.

You heard the sound of a clicking lock and groaned, letting yourself droop down onto the dark blue of the settee and rubbing your eyes with a tired sigh. Your mind chose to fixate on the timbre of the pirate's voice for some reason as your title fell from his lips, that slightly mocking tone so different than any way you'd heard it before.

A sharp knock sounded on the door, somebody announcing their arrival. A key turned in the lock again, and a stacked pile of cloth with two pairs of legs beneath it entered the room.

"I'm guessing you're Y/N?" A friendly voice said perkily from behind the fabric.

"No, she's the other princess Kid found." The other pair of legs said, dumping its load down on the settee and revealing a girl about your age with bright red hair. "'Course she's the one, Lici."

"In fae culture it's rude to assume." The first girl sniffed, carefully setting her fabrics down.

"It's rude to assume in any culture, but it's even more dumb to ask questions you already know the answer to. Plus, you're only half fae."

Fae?

You'd heard of them, of course, but had never actually met one. Their country was on the other side of Kozmira, far enough from Talin that you'd barely heard stories. The stories you'd heard though, were absolutely incredible- magical.

Your face must have shown shock or something similar, for the redhead noticed and grinned a little. "Oh yeah, introductions. I'm Mak. She's Feliciti." She introduced, jerking a thumb at the other, blonde, girl. "I'm Kozmiran, born 'n raised. She's half fae and won't let you forget it."

"I know I would be proud, if I was." You replied, looking at the blonde. "Is it true you can do magic?" You blurted, unsure how to elegantly phrase the question.

The girl blushed and nodded slightly. "Of a sort. I'm very fast when I want to be, and I've a certain affinity with animals. Other than that I'm afraid I'm not very useful."

"I'm the opposite." Mak chimed in. "Animals hate me and I'm not too fast. I can sail though."

You nodded, taking in the information. "Well," You said, glancing at the pile of cloth. "Is there, ah, something I should be doing?"

"Nah, just stand right there." Mak shook her head, grabbing a swatch of fabric. "This won't take long."
