𝔜𝔬𝔲 frowned slightly to yourself as you sat in a mostly quiet corner of the room, avoiding eye contact with anybody and (thankfully) being left alone.

You were tired. Tired physically, yes, but mentally even more so. Tired of trying to pretend, tired of trying to figure out your 'relationship', tired of second guessing everything. Tired of worrying, tired of not knowing where David was, how your family was doing. Tired of, quite literally, everything.

Somebody sat down next to you, but they didn't say anything. It was that boy from earlier, apparently not completely terrified away.

"Hi."

"Hello," You returned the greeting.

"I'm Les."

"I'm Y/N."

"Nice to meet you." He beamed. "Um... can you dance with me? I need to practice. And you don't look like you'll get mad at me if I mess up."

Despite yourself, you smiled. "Okay," You agreed. You didn't have anything else to do, and you wouldn't mind the distraction from your thoughts.

Standing up, you and Les walked over to the dance floor. You gave him a couple tips as you danced, and he grinned happily at you when it was over.

"Thanks!"

"Of course." You smiled. "Why don't you go ask that girl over there? She was looking at you earlier," You said to the young boy with a conspiring  smile.

He gulped and nodded, trotting off towards the younger girl, who promptly turned beet red at the sight of the approaching boy.

You laughed softly to yourself, suddenly feeling old, and resumed your seat, actually feeling slightly better.

A few minutes afterwards, during an interlude between songs, an older man, about your grandfather's age, sat beside you.

"So you're the Talin Princess, then?" He said with a warm smile. "Welcome to Kozmir." You couldn't tell how much he knew as he offered you a glass of chilled juice.

"Yes, I am. Thank you," You said, automatically accepting and taking a small sip.

"Yes, yes, of course. How are you finding your stay?" He asked.

"Well enough, I suppose." You chose your words carefully. "I am getting to be slightly homesick."

"Why, you've only just arrived! I'm sure you'll feel right at home soon." The man said reassuringly as the final dance began. "I must be leaving, I've promised my wife we'd dance. Farewell, Princess Y/N. I do hope you enjoy the rest of your stay."

"Mm." You nodded politely as the man left. Finding it slightly odd he hadn't identified himself, but the thought soon left your mind. Blind Diamond appeared seconds later, looking slightly more reserved than usual.

"Dance with me, Princess?" He asked, holding out his hand. His eyes warning you to accept. You knew the 'engagement' would be announced after the dance, and you knew it would be good for you to be seen together before that.

So, as much as you didn't want to, you took his hand. You felt slightly dizzy when you stood up, probably from the quickness he'd pulled you to your feet.

Drawing you close to him, Kid Blink examined your face carefully. "Are you okay, Princess?" He asked, noting your slightly pink cheeks and your widening eyes.

"Yes, I'm fine..." You trailed off slightly as his grip on your waist strengthened carefully in support. "They're announcing the engagement after this."

"Yes,"

"Is it legally binding? You know, after this is all over..."

"Shh," The prince's gaze darted around. "Don't talk about that now, Y/N."

"Oh, okay." You said. Your eyelids felt heavy. But you were tired, you could tell that. "I'm sleepy."

His eyebrows drew together as he looked at you again. "You're sure you're feeling okay?"

"Yep." You popped the 'p'. "I'm perfectly perfect."

He didn't look convinced as the dance came to an end, but he didn't get the chance to press more as the King cleared his throat from the slightly raised dais. All eyes turned to him as Blind Diamond pulled you closer, wrapping his arm around your waist.

"Today, we are pleased to announce the engagement of my son, Louis Baletti..."

"Oh! L.B., you're L.B. Louis. I knew that." You mumbled to yourself, brain jumping back to the notes.

"To Y/N L/N of Talin..."

"That's me! I'm getting married? I wasn't planning on this quite yet. When I was younger I thought I was gonna marry an Elvish prince, you know that?" You said, frowning slightly as you talked. You couldn't seem to stop the words coming from your mouth.

"Y/N, are you sure you're okay--" Louis started, looking very worried.

"'M fine, handsome, don't worry 'bout me."

"Okay, something's wrong."

"Lots of things are wrong. We just don't know them all yet." You said, suddenly solemn.

Blind Diamond, slightly creeped out now, barely heard the King's instructions of "You may now kiss the fiancée," which he was relatively sure wasn't a thing, but since everybody was clapping he bent his head and kissed you.

You immediately kissed him back, so perfectly he nearly didn't register the ever so slight strange taste on your lips. But register it he did as he pulled back to the cheers of the nobles. Well, most of them.

His visible eye immediately hardened and he clasped your hand tightly, pulling you towards the dais to ceremonially receive the 'blessing' from his father, knowing if he made a scene now it wouldn't end well for any of you.

But how could he stay quiet when he knew they'd drugged you?
