Gu Hai placed five bowls of food on the table, sat next to Bai Luo Yin, gave him a tender pet on the hip and said.
"We can start eating now."
Gu Hai and Liu reached for the bowls full of food at the same time, they took Bai Luo Yin's and Yang Meng's plates and filled them with grilled chicken breast and some rice and salad.
Yang Meng feeling bothered by the silence strucked a conversation.
"Yin Za, have you heard about Yu Qi?"
Bai Luo Yin lifted his eyes from his plate.
"No, what about him? I haven't talked to him for like a year now."
"His wife gave birth to a baby-girl three months ago, the baby is so cute, I have pictures, do you want to see?"
"Yea sure."
Bai Luo Yin reached to adjust Yang Meng's galaxy phone so both he and Gu Hai would be able to see the pictures of the little baby girl.
"She is so cute, right?" Yang Meng and Bai Luo Yin said simultaneously, Yang Meng directed the question to Bai Luo Yin while Bai Luo Yin looked at Gu Hai directing the question to him.
Gu Hai glanced at the picture, his expression indifferent.
"Yup, cute."
For some reason Yang Meng all of a sudden felt the need to ridicule Yu Qi, a move that was unfair since Yu Qi was not there to defend himself.
"I cannot believe his wife is still with him, she is a famous supermodel and has so many better options out there yet she still choses him to be her husband and the father of her children for the rest of her life, brave choice."
Bai Luo Yin tilted his head slightly to the left and squinted his eyes, giving himself the look of a high-school student trying to figure out a complicated math equation.
"It's not that puzzling, if you love someone and get along with them, are you even capable of looking at other people that way? Does it even interest you? To me everybody looks like aliens compared to Gu Hai."
Yung Meng and Liu:"......"
Gu Hai could not hide his smile full of pride.
Ah my good wife, choosing you to spend my lifetime with was indeed the right call.
Liu cleared his throat and changed the topic:" Lieutenant Colonel we came to have dinner with you today because we have some news."
Bai Luo Yin's pupils gleamed, oh finally, he was not wrong, he clapped his hands together, excited.
"I knew it! I thought it was weird that you guys were so excited about dinner, so? What is the news? Tell us!"
Yang Meng and Liu held each other's hands and swung them up as if they just won a prize, they wore big smiles on their faces and shouted together.
"We are engaged!"
"What???" the HaiYin couple asked at the same time.
Bai Luo Yin asked simply because he did not see this one coming while Gu Hai just asked in contempt.
He frankly did not understand why would a serious solider like Liu will take such a pink fragile princess to spend the rest of his life with, it's okay to play with her for a while but to get married? Did Liu lose his mind?
Yang Meng flashed his left hand up, a sparkling diamond ring was on his fourth finger, he moved it slow left and right, grinning.
"Liu surprised me this afternoon when he dropped by at the police station for a sudden visit from the base, he took me to the helicopter where we first met and we flew for like half an hour then he proposed, I screamed and said Yes."
Liu gazed at Yang Meng telling the proposal story and had a restrained smile on, he did not let his excitement rule him as appropriate to a Captain in Lieutenant Colonel Bai's unit.
"Yes, it is true, we got engaged and we are getting married in six months, Yang Meng and I wanted you to be the firsts to know, needless to say you guys will be guests of honor in our wedding."
Bai Luo Yin smiled and got up to embrace the newly engaged couple.
"I am so happy for the two of you, if you need help with anything, we are here for you, congratulations, I am glad you chose us to be the first ones to know."
Gu Hai shook the hands of the excited couple with a polite smile on.
"Congratulations to the both of you."
He cleared up the dishes to the kitchen, leaving the other three to chat about this and that.
An hour later the energetic bunch started to fold, Liu shook Gu Hai's hand again. "The food was really delicious, thank you, and my apologies for imposing ourselves unannounced like that."
"Please, it was no trouble at all, I needed to prepare dinner either way anyways."
Bai Luo Yin and Yang Meng were a few steps behind them, lingering at each other's loose embrace.
"Yin Za thank you for everything, every time I see you it puts a smile on my face, you are a real friend, will talk to you soon my dear sister."
Bai Luo Yin used his forbidden Lieutenant Colonel tone to warn him. "Yang Meng don't drag Liu to bars or clubs to celebrate now, he needs to get some sleep, we have a long training tomorrow morning and I need my soldiers alert and focused."
Hearing his Lieutenant Colonel's words, Liu instantly turned to Bai Luo Yin and saluted.
"Yes Lieutenant Colonel."
The front door of the apartment closed, the peace and quiet returned to the married couple's peaceful nest.
Gu Hai wiped the marble, getting ready to clean up the mess. Bai Luo Yin titled his head at him.
"So, what do you say?"
"About what?"
