The general Gu phone-call has been delayed for days.
It took Bai Luo Yin a whole week to persuade Gu Hai to finally dial that number, and get it over with.
At first, Gu Hai declared with all his firmness that he will never talk to his father ever again. Every time he heard someone mentioning his father's name, he spat to the side, clenched his fist, and smashed it into any luckless object that happened to be situated in his proximity.
Every day anew, Bai Luo Yin nagged him. "You can't keep running away from it. We will have to call him, and see what he wants sooner or later. Do you prefer that he will come to us, and take a flight here? Come on, let's just talk to him. He can't hurt us through the phone. When you keep postponing it like that, it does nothing but to prevent us from continuing with our lives."
"What don't you understand?" Gu Hai countered. "I have no interest to talk with the man that stabbed you. I told you that a million times before, I don't care if he hurts me, It is you that he can't hurt, ever!"
"Fine! How do you think he will hurt me exactly in a phone-call? Do you think he will shoot me, or stab me again through the phone? You are being illogical! Let's just talk to him."
Every one of these recurring conversions ended precisely the same. Gu Hai pulled a face of an uncooperative four-year-old. He gave a childish spectacle as he sulked, and walked away from the argument. Not willing to participate in it for even a minute longer.
One of those days, luck, for a change, decided to drop by Bai Luo Yin's side. The Gu brothers have just finished seven different matches of football, and basketball. They played throughout the day since the morning with the dedication of the most-serious, top-range athletes. They had to play like professionals. They betted money on it, major money.
Meanwhile, Bai Luo Yin had the time of his life. He laid back on the sidelines, and snacked on Doritos while narrating the games with a fake, overly fervent voice of a football's commentator.
Gu Hai won four of the matches. Gu Yang won three.
Drenched with sweat, Gu Hai neared Bai Luo Yin, grinning, waving bills of greens in his hand. Bills he has so strenuously worked on since early in the morning.
Seeing him in such a good spirit, Bai Luo Yin parted his lips, planning to embark on his daily journey of nagging.
"Stop." Gu Hai lifted his palm. "I know what you are about to say. Okay, let's talk to him, only this one time. After that, you can't ask me again, because I won't do it. I mean it."
And so, the two lied on the grass in the mansion's football field. Gazing at the changing colors of the sunset above, while anxiously waiting for the general to receive their call.
"General Gu Wei Ting speaking."
"General..." Bai Luo Yin suddenly lost all of his confidence. "It is us...it's—"
"It's me, Gu Hai." Said man interjected. "Yin Zi is also here with me. What do you want from us?"
"Son—"
"Son? I am sorry, I am not sure to whom you are referring to. My father died about a week ago, when Yin Zi almost lost his life because of him. Let's keep it professional, shall we general? As Yin Zi's commander, what exactly do you want from him? I will give you a minute to say whatever you want before I will hang up the phone. And if you will come after us again, I am giving you my word, only one of us will come out of it alive."
A cold calculated silence lingered in the line before Gu Wei Ting broke it.
"Let's make a deal." he calmly said.
