Two

As Jade walked to her lectures on the college campus, she listened to the blasting lyrics of the songs on her iPod. This was one thing she found calming. The sound of the music that matched her heart's dreary outlook steadied her and made her feel as though she wasn't entirely alone.

Suddenly, a boy on a bicycle rushed past her. She stopped in shock and stared as he glanced over his shoulder. His blue eyes locked with Jade's grey ones and the strangest sensation washed over her, like the gentlest wave from the smallest beach. She felt at ease, not stressed or panicked. Not as though the walls she'd built would fall if she didn't keep building. Not like she would collapse if she didn't hold herself up.

She felt as though she wasn't broken.

The feeling faded the moment she broke eye contact with the boy, but she knew she would see him again. She had to. She had to know more about him, know why he had such an effect on her.

She continued her walk with a considerably lighter mood and a goal in mind.

~**~

Jade had suffered through four hours of gruelling lectures and boring professors before she finally laid eyes on him. His eyes didn't meet hers this time, but she could tell the moment he entered the lecture hall. She felt a shift in her state of mind and she almost smiled when she saw him.

"Jordan Knight, thank you for finally joining us. Take a seat." Ordered Jade's professor.

"Sorry, sir. I got lost." Answered Jordan with a flash of a grin. He then looked up into the eyes of a very interested Jade Hillcrest. She was only slightly disappointed when he sat in the front row. She wasn't expecting him to be drawn to her the same way she felt drawn to him.

When Jade left the lecture hall at 4:30pm, she was not expecting to see what she saw, nevertheless, she witnessed it. And it confused her to no end. When Jordan Knight sprinted past her, she caught the slightest glimpse of something lustrous and reflective on Jordan's back.

She told herself it was simply the light reflecting off the snow in a peculiar way. That it couldn't possibly be true. She told herself this as she walked the thirty minutes to her apartment and as she showered. She told herself this as she climbed the stairs to the flat roof of the apartment building, as she did every evening. But as she lay on her back, staring at the stars and the place she once called home, she couldn't deny the fact any longer. She knew it was true; she felt it within the deepest corners of what was left of her broken soul.

She'd seen Jordan's wings.
