Five
Jade didn't know why she felt so disappointed. She knew she shouldn't have been expecting anything to happen between herself and Jordan. But she'd let her guard down, the walls she'd worked so hard to erect had crumbled with each of Jordan's smiles and laughs. Now she was left feeling cold and empty. Again.
As she walked slowly back to her apartment, she thought about the glimpse of silver she'd seen the day before. It seemed highly unlikely that her thoughts were true, and yet she couldn't shake the feeling that Jordan was more like her than she originally thought.
At first glance, she could tell he was different. The way he made her feel, no one else had achieved that. But she knew there was no way he could be anything like her. She was too different. Even if he was an angel, there was no way he could be like her. She'd seen his wings, if that was indeed what they were.
Jade sighed as she exhaustedly unlocked the door to her 'home.' When she grasped the handle and slowly pushed on the wood, she was overcome with a sense of longing. She wished she had something or someone to come back to.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. She closed and locked her front door again and walked quickly to the mall nearby.

"So this is the one?" Asked the store attendant.
Jade smiled, "Yeah, he's the one." She handed the man seventy three dollars and picked her new kitten up in her arms. The feeling of warmth against her chest made the weight inside it lift slightly.
She was surprised. It had only been Jordan's gaze and presence before that made the Darkness leave her, even temporarily. But as she took her kitten, Malice home, she thought that perhaps the simple act of knowing Jordan had been enough to start her healing.
Later that evening, Jade was lounged on her sofa, reading her text book when Malice wandered up to her, placed his ink black paws on her legs and pushed himself onto her lap. As the furry creature settled down and began to purr in his sleep, and Jade's hand wandered over his silky back, she felt more at home than she ever had in Heaven.

Jade was hesitant to go to her lectures in the morning. She was unsure how Jordan would react to her after yesterday and she didn't know how she wanted him to react. But she slung her book bag over her shoulder and trudged the thirty-minute walk to the campus.
But when her lectures ended, Jade was a mixture of relieved and disappointed. Jordan had not been present and there had been nothing in the class to stop Jade from feeling the presence of the Darkness. Though she did notice that the unavoidable blackness seemed lighter. As though it were fading.
