Eight

"I know where we can find someone to help us." Said Jordan with a grin, "But we're going to need a car."

Jade stared at him quizzically, wondering where they were going to get a vehicle when neither of them had sufficient money. Then it dawned on her that Jordan had something risky in mind. "What are you thinking?"

Something akin to anticipation flashed in Jordan's eyes. "How do you feel about grand theft auto?"

"What?" Exclaimed Jade in surprise. "I'm not stealing a car!" There was no way she was going to become a criminal on earth as well as in Heaven. She'd already lost too much.

"It's the only way!" Jordan argued, "Do you want to start this rebellion or not?"

The word knocked the air out of Jade's lungs and she gasped. Rebellion. She wasn't a rebel, was she? She was simply fighting for what she believed in. "Fine," She agreed exasperatedly, "But I choose the car."

Jordan's laugh was infectious and mood lifting, however even it wasn't enough to ease the worry growing in the pit of Jade's stomach.

~**~

"No, not that one." Jade said, turning down the sixth car Jordan had pointed out. She could see it was beginning to bother him, but she was in fact enjoying herself. She'd thought it wouldn't be possible, but this component of the theft was fun.

"Hurry up and pick a damn car." Jordan growled impatiently, but Jade knew he found this entertaining.

Then she saw it. The car that would take them to New York. It was perfect. "That one." She said, pointing it out to Jordan.

His jaw dropped. "You can't be serious." He said in disbelief. "D-do you know how hard it's going to be to bypass the alarm system and disable the steering lock mechanism in that thing? Damn near impossible!" He exclaimed. "Besides, it'll draw attention to us."

Jade smirked, "That's exactly the point. We're trying to make a statement, aren't we? If my father found out that I don't have the Darkness anymore, he must be watching me, which means he knows we're going to try and overthrow the officials. We want them to know we're serious. We aren't going to hide because we aren't going to be able to."

Jordan seemed to think about her answer for a minute before he sighed and headed towards the Lamborghini. "Watch my back."

~**~

"Jordan! Can't you shut it off?" Jade yelled over the blaring car alarm, her hands over her ears so as not to go deaf.

"I'm trying, Jade! It's not as easy as I make it look!" After another few seconds of deafening racket, the sound stopped and Jordan sighed before continuing.

"Is it nearly done?" Jade asked hesitantly.

She heard something click and Jordan's head of black hair appeared above the dashboard of the vehicle. "Yep, let's go."
