Seventeen
Jade felt the nervousness wash over her as she rang the doorbell on the two storey house. Obviously, some Torn hadn't had as hard an earth life as others. Jade waited patiently beside Jordan and Lela for the door to be opened, her nervousness growing with every passing minute.
Eventually, a young woman with short blonde hair and bright green eyes answered the door. "Hello, can I help you?" She asked. To Jade, she sounded only slightly older than twenty.
"Maddy Kale? I'm Jade Hillcrest," She introduced herself, "Could we talk to you for a few moments please?"
Jade could see the shock and recognition in the woman's face as she opened the door wide enough for the three to walk inside. "What's this about?" She asked once they were all seated in the living room.
"We want to overthrow Heaven." Jade said, "Because of men like my father, we've all lost something precious to us and we endeavour to show them that they can't treat us like we don't mean anything." She took a deep breath. "But we need the help of any Torn that's willing to aid us."
She hadn't planned to say that much, but once she'd started she'd found it hard not to continue. "This is a lot to take in." Said Maddy hesitantly.
"What did you have in Heaven?" Jordan asked.
"What do you-?"
"What did you have in Heaven?" He repeated.
"I had a boyfriend, a caring family and a steady job." She sounded sad now and Jade prayed that Jordan knew what he was doing. "I had my wings." She whispered.
"And what do you have now?" Jordan muttered quietly.
"I have an empty house, scars on my back and a year of depression." Maddy said, her voice now stronger. Jade could hear the determination in it and her spirits lifted in hope. "I want to help you." She said, "But what can I do?"
Lela smiled, "We have a friend who can teach you to fight. You'll be stronger and more confident than ever."
Maddy smiled, "Great! Then I am some help after all!" Jade smiled at the woman's desire to be of use to their cause. Maddy had been apprehensive until she was sure that she would be able to assist them affectively. Jade admired that.

"So where is everyone else?" Maddy asked once she was settled into her room. She was sitting in the living area on one of the sofas with her legs crossed underneath her.
"This is all we have at the moment," Said Jordan, taking a seat beside Jade and holding her hand in his. Jade liked the feeling of his skin on hers. "But we're hoping to find more people tomorrow."
"Can I help?" Maddy asked excitedly. Jade respected her enthusiasm.
"Actually," Piped up Lela as she made her way over to the group with a bowl of instant macaroni and cheese, "Darren's going to start training you tomorrow."
"Really? I can't wait!" Maddy exclaimed excitedly. Jade laughed along with the others. Already she knew that she and Maddy would get along well.
