Fifteen
"But I don't want to go to America." Darren complained. Jordan sighed and saw beside him that Jade was getting aggravated. He took her small hand in his own and smiled reassuringly at her.
"Darren, we're going to need your help to train the other Torn and to fight in the war. Unless you can house hundreds of angels here," He gestured to the house they were standing in, "I suggest you come with us."
Jordan could see Darren thinking about it before he finally said, "Fine. But we're doin' this the legal way. I got a bit o' cash stored up. I can get us plane tickets. None o' this sneakin' past customs, got it?"
Jordan agreed wholeheartedly. Trying to travel by plane without money was painful enough the first time. He was infinitely grateful not to have to do it again. The three gathered all that they had and left the awfully rundown building for the last time.

Jade was awake when the plane landed this time, she watched as the tarmac of the airport grew closer until the landing gear touched down in New York and the plane slowly came to a halt.
She searched for Jordan and Darren, finding them waiting at the baggage carousel. When they'd retrieved Darren's belongings, they hired a Suzuki and made their way to Lela's apartment.
Jade wasn't thrilled to be visiting the woman once again, but she could assist them to find other Torn. Lela was much more hospitable at a reasonable hour of the day and gladly told them the names and addresses of three Torn living in the city.
"I've been thinking," She said to Jade once they were alone, "And I'd firstly like to apologise for how I treated you last time."
"It's fine," Jade assured her, "I don't blame you."
"And I wanted to ask you if I could join your rebellion."
Jade glanced stared at her, surprised. "Are you serious?" She asked, unable to believe it. Lela seemed to her the last person to want to get involved in an uprising.
Lela nodded. "My husband left me two years ago and I have nothing to do for myself here. I miss my wings every night. I wouldn't have had to give them up if the officials hadn't been such damn-" She cut herself off and took a deep breath. "Just please, let me join you. I can cook and clean. And I think I know someone who can help you find somewhere to house the Torn."
Jade thought for a moment. Lela had as good a reason as any to want to bring down Heaven and she, just like the Torn, had nothing to lose. "Alright," She said, "You can join us."
Lela grinned and thanked her, and then surprised her yet again by wrapping her arms around Jade's neck in a hug. Jade sat there awkwardly for a moment until Lela pulled back. "We can go see Mason tomorrow. She's in real estate so she most likely knows somewhere big enough to house hundreds or Torn."
Jade thanked her and settled into the sofa for the night, as it was now nine o'clock and jetlag was interfering with Jade's sleep pattern.
As she stared up at the ceiling willing sleep to come, Jade thought of how different things were now, in comparison to two years or even one year ago.
The change was not entirely unwelcome.
